Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Gen-over-Gen Titanfall Comparison (Hint: Titanfall Wins)

I thought I give a realistic comparison with Titanfall with high profile releases 360 had back in March 2006, when both consoles were 5 months old and both were in need of a system seller. Two games came up for 360: Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Fortunately enough, this comparison makes even more sense because these games are all not exclusive and had PC releases.Where as Titanfall is multiplayer heavy, Oblivion is single player heavy but GRAW filled in the gap with its competitive MP at the time.

Let us see how history compares to now.

Week 1 - 227 612

March 2006 - 427 082

Week 1/March 2006 - 327 462

_______________________________

USA Week 1 - 580 000

UK Week 1 - 122 878

Titanfall  Week 1 Total: 902 010

GRAW + Oblivion Week 1 Total: 555 074

GRAW + Oblivion March: 754 544

Xbox 360 March 2006 Sales: 396 504

Xbox One March 2014 Sales:

Titanfall surpasses both games week 1 and beats their March total. A great start to the new generation, though a great deal of Titanfalls success comes from a massive marketing push on MS's behalf. Can anyone confirm if Titanfall numbers include the digital bundle sales?

Please discuss.

Great sales for Titanfall! But what's the point of comparing Ghost Reckon's sales? Or even comparing Elder Scorlls since its such a different game.

They are similar only in a gen-over-gen release schedule comparison. I.E. these were the games that came out in month 5 of 360, Titanfall came out month 5 of X1.

700,000 is amazing just in the US/UK

GRAW is actually a great comparison on multiple levels.

Both it and Titanfall were viewed as the first "next gen" MP experiences on their consoles.
Both it and Titanfall released on the next gen and previous gen Xbox consoles (though Titanfall is 2 weeks away).
Both it and Titanfall has its previous gen ports handled by a different studio, so next gen got the "real" version.

Another strong tie is that the Tom Clancy games (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six) had STRONG online communities on the OG Xbox. These were games that XBL people played as devotedly as PS2 guys played SOCOM. The games were typically handled on PS2 by other studios, and couple that with the big power difference, the games were typically much different on PS2/GCN. This gave the series a much larger devoted fanbase on Xbox consoles. One could easily make the case (plenty here do it all the time actually, in a derogatory manner) that CoD resonates more with the Xbox crowd, and Titanfall comes from the CoD developers.

What are the console numbers like? If the Xbox One is far ahead, is kind of skews the results. If they're close, it will be very interesting.

700k is impressive. When you add in PC, 360, and digital sales, it may just reach my predicted 1mil first week sales. :)

The game in the most popular genre that has wide range appeal among casual and hardcore alike, got probably three or four times the marketing budget than the other two combined and on the system that had a greater user base than the other sells more.

Seems pretty logical.

Does anybody know if vgchartz included the digital game with the console?

MS consoles have always had some great attach ratio. The best in the industry actually.
