Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are ps4 owners really paying 100$ less for more power?

I'm just going to get right into the thick of it.

Sure, the ps4 is 100$ cheaper than xb1...but how much more are we actually getting and how much is it really worth?

Full breakdown after the jump.

Controller:
DS4 Lightbar: easily a couple dollars added to the cost of the controller, and it drains the battery....nobody even wanted this. 1$
Li-On (Lithium Ion Battery): C'mon, seriously Sony? Get with the times and use battery packs. I have lots of unused rechargeables, and the li-on battery easily adds 4-5$ onto the price tag. It makes no sense why you'd inflate your price to give something anyone can get for pennies on ebay. Once a li-on dies, it's dead and unreplaceable. Way to make us pay 60$ every couple weeks sony.
Touchpad and share button: Easily the biggest wastes in gaming history. 3-5$

Console:
Hard Drive: 500GB is way too much. Could easily have been 100GBs, with option to add expensive proprietary storage. (I know people complain about this for Vita, but X360 showed it could be done on home consoles where storage is less of a factor) 20$
HDMI Cable: Wtf is wrong with you? Not only does everyone have these, but there is absolutely no need. Graphics don't matter Sony. 4$ in fact....

HDMI Out completely: 5$. The gamers have spoken
RAM: It's pretty clear that ESRAM was the way to go. 5GB GDDR5 plus even as little as 8mb ESRAM would've been plenty, and probably be even stronger than current performance. Adding the speeds together gives you something like 800GB/s. 30$
Slanted edges: Everyone knows slants cost more. 3$
USB ports: Seriously, one is more than enough. Everyone has a computer with ports on it. 3$

Extras:
Box: Printed boxes are passe. Blank boxes with printed sleeves are cheaper and make more sense in terms of storage. 50 cents.
PS+: PS+ for three months is too much. Make PS+ separate for each console, and charge us much less. Potential 16$ savings.
Headset: Nobody uses regular headsets. Turtle Beach, Bitch. 2$

There you have it.
PS4 is at least 94$ too expensive.

A lot of people say that you get MORE for your ps4, but c'mon guys. It's really not more at all. It's a bunch of unwanted garbage. 360 made it through last gen without 100% of this extra bullshit.

My recommendation to Sony is get rid of all these things, and you might, just might have a chance at competing with Nintendo for first place.

500GB HDD is rapidly looking like it's not big enough, let alone too big. Have you seen the file sizes of some of these games? >_<

I think the case uses unecessary plastic. They could have done it Rasberry Pi style (bare board) and that would have saved not only moulding costs, but allowed much more customisation and helped save the environment by using far less plastic.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Thanks for the laugh!

There is no way this is real.

It should be fine with 8MB of ram.

Edit: also this saving plastic is why cases suck ass now. ty.

Sorry, I meant netflix/you tube update files.

Sony should just ship a brick in the box. They'd probably still be number one considering how much Nintendo and Microsoft have been screwing up this gen.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Failed to mention the headphone jack on the controller.  -5 points

I think I will leave these forums, the level is going down and down, and most of time I don't know if I have to laugh or cry...

According to Bill Gates, no one will ever need more than 640K of RAM.
