Forums - Gaming Discussion - These resolution wars...

...to any real gamer they are totally cringeworthy.

It is absolutely ridiculous that developers today have to justify what freakin resolution they run their games at. I guess all these so called "elite hardcore gamers" are oblivious to the fact that most "HD" games last generation rendered at sub 600p resolutions.

Most people wouldn't even recknogize the resolution a game renders at. Resolution only accounts for a small part of how well a game looks. What's worse, is that you hardly see any threads about what makes a game really great. It's never about game design or which emotions a game evokes.

The gaming world is filled with idiots.

What's with the people that do and are spoiled by a PC that is doing 1080p@60fps for years?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Sorry but resolution is by far the number one factor when it comes to graphics.

Proof. Get any PC game and put it on medium settings at 1080p and take a screenshot and then put it at 720p on Ultra settings and take a screenshot and the 1080p screenshot will look better.

If you do not want to play at proper HD resolutions stick to the PS360 and don't gripe when we gripe about low resolutions on the PS4/One

doesn't affect my decisions or enjoyment but reso-gate threads are uber click bait.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

There is no excuse for a 500$ system to run at the same resolutions as a 8 and 9 year old console. PS4 has been pretty much entirely at 1080p so I can not complain with it.

Resolution does not make a game good or bad (My fav game is BF4 on PS4 which is 900p) but with a new generation I expect the resolution to go up or there was really no point in the new generation

its not that a resolution can ruin a game, its that when you have 2 games that are identical except for resolution, there is a visual difference. To some this matters, to others it does not. And some pretend like it doesnt matter and get super defensive about it.

But it doesnt matter. If it did we would statistical evidence to prove that but in reality its vice versa.

In a attempt to promote their strengths in effort to mask their lackluster game design, western developers have trained the current industry into the belief that silly/negligible cosmetics are important to enjoying a video game. Now it is coming back to bite them on the ass. You are absolutely right at the amount of developers coming out to justify their resolutions being beyond pathetic , but you know what ... thats their fault. Gotta reap what you sow. Dont feel sorry for them.

There's no war, higher res just gives you a sharper better image...

Don't get why this is so hard to swallow for some people, theres really no preference in this case. Either you accept that your system can't do 1080p or don't. =/

I don't know........I bought ghost digitally on both 360 and xbox one and the xbox one version at native 720p looks way better.... it's the only cross platform I have both of and it alone justified my upgrade.

500 isn't so much money though, some people buy a new 800 dollar phone every six months.......now that doesn't make sense.

But it can, it just doesn't do it all the time >_<

but for my set up 720p looks the same as 1080p it isn't always a shrper image......it depends on conditions.....

Yes, higher resolution textures does make a game look better but resolution is the most important thing when it comes to graphics. If you can not tell the difference in 1080p you either have a small monitor/tv or sit a long ways away from it.

Off topic: I absolutely agree with you on the phones. I have a Nokia Lumia 520 and love it (100$ when it was released and 60$ now)

I think the difference is more than small, but yeah, theres many things that go into making a game look good and res is right up there...whenever you see a remake/'remaster,the main thing they focus on is the res...shadow of the colossus remake/gow collection ect looks as good as it does because of the higher res.,it makes everything else you got just pop with clarity..

I was born and raised on HD graphics!!!

Megadrive was where it's at for HD powah, that blast processing really could shift pixels.
