No it didn't. Even if we use Capcoms figures, 1.4 million is still less than 2.09 million. DMC3 sold more.

DMC3 sold 1.3M. Use official data if you have access to it.

Official data is Capcom, of course. Who else?

You missed that DMC3 Special Edition is at 1.0M from that list at nr 62.. So DMC3 sold 1.3M + 1.0M = 2.3M

Never underestimate the power of Capcom to re-re-re-re-release their games..

Sonic Lost World. It's not that great though.

I agree on DmC, the game was great, it was critically acclaimed, but had bad press and controversy around it and sold poorly.

I kinda agree with Spec Ops The Line. It's a good shooter with great story, but it didn't get especially good scores (76-77) on metacritic, and it does look very average unless you play it a couple of hours. So I understand that it's overlooked by most gamers.

My personal list for underperforming games:

1. Rayman Legends. (0.96m) Best 2D platformer EVER and it hurts so much seeing it flop like this.

2. Gravity Rush (0.40) Might look too niche...and it's only on Vita.

3. Motorstorm Apocalypse (0.41) One of the most fun racing games I've played. It got hurt very bad by the Fukushima disaster. The game released around that time and Sony refused to advertise it and delayed it in some countries because the game featured earthquakes during the races.

4. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (1.39) Best kart game EVER. Still gets crushed by Mario Kart.

5. Vanquish (0.94). Best SP shooter of the generation for me. What a thrilling gameplay. But it might look to niche for the mass market.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Vanquish. This game is awesome. But it didnt passed 1 million numbers.

There are four games I have on my PSplus list, I'll check m out in the near fututre.

Sleeping dogs as someone mentioned. I enjoyed it a lot, so much better than say GTA.

I already talked about that. Original DmC release > DMC3 release. And, as I said before, we can do a better comparison of total sales when DmC has a re-release. In the meantime, that doesn't detract from the fact that DmC sold more than DMC3.

Does it really matter? The point of this thread is to discuss games that we felt where good but underperformed or where unfairly panned or hated by critics and fanboys. This way we introduce our fellow gamers to games they may have passed over because they where either so niche and poorly marketed they didn't notice them, or they purposely ignored them because people convinced them not to bother. I feel DmC is one of those game for the reasons above; and honestly, DMC3's sales don't make a stitch of a difference to that. As for the special edition of DMC3, it wasn't a re-release in the classical sense. Capcom recalled remaining copies of the English language release DMC3 from retailers in 2006 as it was believed to be unreasonably difficult after a programming error changed the paramiters in the difficulty settings, the Special Edition was then released without this error which is why it's noticeably easier with the intention of it replacing the original.

One thing I honestly do question, is why do VGChartz numbers differ so much here? In discussions like this I assume VGChartz numbers are accurate, after all, what's the point in the database if the numbers are vastly inaccurate... personally I'm more prepared to believe that Capcom would give less accurate figures, as it would serve their purpose to make sales look how they want them to look, but in this case it makes little sense. Still what really matters are the games; we're not shareholders in Capcom (thankfully), so who really cares how many sales it makes outside of the game being "successful", the only thing that matters is; "are the games good?", and that's what this thread is about, good games that failed to be what the industry would consider "successful".

At least some of them got played abit more, 3 of them were available through Playstation Plus.

Remember Me, DMC and Spec Ops the line. I beat Spec Ops and that was awesome. Showed how devastating war was on the mind. I have yet to play the other two.

Anyway my 5 under performed games.

Vanquish, Bulletstorm, Blur, Enslaved and Deus Ex Human Revolution.
