Forums - PC Discussion - Vanilla WoW vs Pandaria WoW - A video series

Hello my fellow VGChartz brothers and sisters!

I've been around here for ages (although I don't post very much at all, I just read), but I'm going to do something that is a little frowned upon in forums, so if you don't like users sharing their own videos then please stop reading now because that is just what I'm about to do.

On YouTube I'm Dodgykebaab ( www.youtube.com/dodgykebaab ) and I'm on the same network now as Tobygames, epicmealtime and Rocketjump, but I'm still only pretty small time which is the reason I still have to get up off my arse and find viewers myself thus the reason for this post!

I do a video series that looks at the difference between Classic Warcraft and Pandaria.  Each video takes a particular area in the game and looks at what has changed over the years.  Here's the latest video in the series:

And if you like it, you can see the whole video series here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL622689DEA2FE5B79

Also I do a far more popular video series on Warcraft, but it's a bit naughty so I won't go into details, but if that's something that might intrest you, you can find it here:

Anyway, I won't do a repeat of this post and from now on I'll continue writing about how the Wii U is dead in the water and has almost no chance of reaching GC sales in it's lifetime!

Other than the community and perhaps some aspects of leveling:

Current WoW > Vanilla WoW

I'd say that guild bonuses killed guild communitys, LFR killed the idea that people should at least try to learn a raid before diving in a ruining it for people.

The outright refusal to reuse old world zones for higher players made the world too sparse and losing the key ring was the dumbest idea ever

Guild community is still there, just avoid leveling guilds.

LFR is tourist mode, if you are on your game you really never need to do LFR unless coming into an expansion late or leveling an alt.  Even then you can still quickly gear up and start Flex + Normal in no time and not have to worry about them again. If you have a good guild than you ran LFR or Flex as a group like mine do anyhow.

What could they do to old/low level zones to bring back max level people? I'd rather they focus on the new areas than the old.

Key Ring is great, as someone who is running out of room in bags / bank space cause of Transmog gear + Heirlooms + Vanity items I greatly liked the addition.  Toy Box and the Heirloom tab they are adding next expansion is a god send as well.

Cool idea for a video. One of the things I can't fault about what Blizzard did with the game was to make it dynamic and always changing, with areas changing as things change in the game.

Unfortunately, everything else they did with the game killed it for me and I must disagree with crazy man here. Stuff like LFR killed much of the sense of community in the game. I found some people I'm still friends with now through searching for a group to run dungeons with back when I joined up in TBC. Now, if you just stick your name in the LF queue you'll find a group from servers you'll never interact with again to go through it with.

And I kinda agree that Blizzard's stubborn-ness not to update old content with new stats so that it could be run by max level players really killed the sense of a "world" which they were doing such a good job of creating in the first place. There's no reason to revisit old content except out of nostalgia (or if you run a level-capped guild i.e. level 70, like I tried to at one point) yet some of their best content is hidden away in the coffers at this point.

S'a shame. But such is the nature of an MMORPG I suppose.

Well if you put it that way then I guess LFR did kill that aspect of the community. Though I'd rather not have to go back to spending an hour looking for a group in trade then waiting to travel then summon everyone to the instance.

I really can't think of a way for them to entice people to go do old zones.

More quests + Reputation would just be temporary. World PvP wouldn't work (poor lowbies).

I think what I'm trying to get at is that we are playing a 9 YEAR OLD GAME that changed drastically in order to keep up with the times.

I'm a BC kid, and I understand at what you'll are getting at but I try and not let rose tinted glasses cloud my judgement.

I'd agree with that, but it's just an unfortunate by-product of what they set out to achieve.  They set out to make QoL better in WoW, which they did, but in the process ended up killing the feeling of community in the game.

In summoning people to the instance, you'd end up spending time talking in party; organizing who was going to go; what dungeon you thought you were all geared enough to run.  And you'd have to communicate in early dungeons (fucking Shadow Labs).  Now, you pop in instantly after the queue finds a match and bomb through it in 20 minutes or so.

It's a much more modern, user-friendly technique.  And it's a lot more disconnected.

I do agree that heroic dungeon difficulty needs to looked at.

BC got it right. Wrath got it right. Cata pre nerf got it right. Pandria is laughable.
