Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Worst Zelda Game - A Link to the Past vs Link's Awakening

Which one is worse?

A Link to teh Past 25 22.12%

Linkseses Awakening 59 52.21%

I don't know/See results 29 25.66%

Total:113

I have played Alttp at a young age and it was one of my first Zelda games. Though I enjoy Link's awakening (very much) I have to say this is the 'worse' game. (by millimeters; if I had to say one of the Zelda games was my least favourite, I'd still love it )

Damn I hope Ocarina of Time doesn't face-off against Majora's Mask :/ This is gonna be tough!

These are two games that don't belong on ANY 'worst' list. These are two of the best games ever made.

I know, but this is to see what people think the worst Zelda is, and I can't take away over half of the Zelda games.

The 2 DS games are the worst.

I've tried to play through A Link to the Past three times and got bored less than half way through it. Just an incredibly boring Zelda game in my opinion, yet have finished Link's Awakening and Link's Awakening DX many times.

Well, did you play it when it came out. I can't attest to this as I wasn't even born then but most of the people who did keep raving about how fantastic it was. I personally like Link's Awakening more, but can greatly appreciate A Link to the Past for its open world, high production values and being a generally well-built game. I think the reason you might like Link's Awakening more might be similar to mine - due to characters and story (an incredible feat at the time for the original Gameboy).

Even though A Link to the Past is an amazing game and my #5 favorite Zelda game, it's handheld counterpart Link's Awakening is obviously superior as it trounces it's 'big brother' in every possible way and even did more, besides maybe, graphics which is a given considering. Link's Awakening, a brilliant and extremely underrated game in my opinion, is my #2 Zelda game an my #5 'best game ever made'.

Sadly I reckon Link's Awakening will lose this solely due to it being overlooked, lesser well known and due to people assuming the SNES game is better just because of it's reputation. I feel Yoshi's Island suffers a similar fate all the time against it's inferior predecessor.

If I have to choose which is the lesser (I won't say 'worse') of the two, I'd choose, A Link to the Past.

Not when it first came out but when the SNES was current gen, yeah.  I tried it later on a PC emulator, and then the third and last time was when it was released for GBA.

It could be that I grew out of the Zelda series, but I don't really think that's it.  I still like Zelda 1 and Link's Awakening.  I like games like Illusion of Gaia, Alundra, etc, which are Zelda games by different developers.  3D Dot Game Heroes is pretty much of a ripoff of Zelda and I finished that game on normal, then Spelunker mode afterwards.  It's just Link to the Past.  Something is with that game that I don't like.

What? Link's Awakening is not only the best Zelda game ever made, imo it's also the very best videogame ever conceived, period. I'm serious, too.

Not almost, but completely! Well, imo anyway. Link's Awakening DX = perfection.

And yes, I am Dutch. We're an underrepresented bunch here on VGC, sadly. So what's your #1 Zelda, then?

I'm not original. Ocarina is my favorite. LA is easily #2, I think it's as perfect and flawless as Ocarina and basically only loses (well, "loses") because I usually like 3D games more than 2D games. It's in no peril of becoming #3 that's for sure !

For me it's just that the game seems like an expansion of the original Zelda - much better graphics, a fresh soundtrack and a new open world. The thing is that the story is very simplistic, and not in a good way like in Link's Awakening where it was sufficient to serve its purposes. I always assumed it had something to do with being an earlier SNES game, though I could be wrong.
