If Nintendo would have released a more classic high-end console similar to the PS4 and X1, with better hardware and a more classic controller. Let's say the Wii U Pro Controller(shown below) was the default instead of their pad-controller.




So, with more powerful hardware and a more classic controller. Kind of going with the GameCube U instead of Wii U. Do you think this would have been a better move?

A million times yes. A powerful console with all 3rd party games and Nintendo exclusives is everything gamers want.

If that were the case I wouldn't have gone for a PS4.

I still don't think so... I mean come on... Would people really give up games like Uncharted, Last of Us, Killzone, Resistance, Infamous, GT and etc for Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario 3d World, X, Zelda and etc as well as ps+ and their superior online network infrastructure? I highly doubt it...

I have a wiiU cause I prefer Nintendo games over Sony 8/10 times and I hate paying for online which is why I got it and I doubt it would change for Sony fans if the wiiU was just as powerful as a ps4 with a $400 price tag cause they prefer Sony games over Nintendo's...

Well they would have had to change the name to distance themselves from the brand created with the Wii. That also has a negative side effect of making customers that did buy the Wii (which were a lot haha) that they are either alienated by the new system or that there is no successor to the system they have.

Second, by making a similar system, it doesn't guarantee that developers will make those games for the system or that the fans of those games will buy a Ninty system to play them if they are there.

So would it have been more successful earlier on? No clue haha. Too many variables that could push it in too many directions.

Yes, because GameCube worked so well for them.

Granted, neither is Wii U, but for the same underlying reasons (i've written before about why Nintendo "can't" make red ocean consoles. It's not in their DNA)

People will continue to say what would make them buy a Nintendo console, they will then continue to not buy the console regardless

Had they come out with a $250 console with pro controller + wiimote/nunchuck that was also more powerful than Wii U, then there is arguments to be made it could have done a lot better.

But, its hard to tell as it really comes down to the games. Its launch info and games failed to really point out two things.

1) That it was a new Nintendo console.
2) That it had anything unique / awesome enough to catch the mass consumer again.

Would have bought 2 but Nintendo is so far up its ass, how the hell did they not see this coming?

Loved the Gamecube. I have more games for it than PS2.
