Had they come out with a $250 console with pro controller + wiimote/nunchuck that was also more powerful than Wii U, then there is arguments to be made it could have done a lot better.
But, its hard to tell as it really comes down to the games. Its launch info and games failed to really point out two things.
1) That it was a new Nintendo console.
2) That it had anything unique / awesome enough to catch the mass consumer again.
