Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pitch your ideas to Sony for the next handheld concept

An Xperia Play 2 would be the way to go since the smartphones are "killing" the handheld consoles. People can enjoy playing android games and using it as a phone as well as having exclusive games that use most of the hardware capabilities, assuming it would be more powerful than the Vita.

"Okay, it's like a handheld, right? But this one... has games. Whoa!"

My sentiments exactly!

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

They don't need a new handheld. They need to support the one they have with some exclusive software.

If they put Vita Tv in all of their products they could alleviate massive amounts of R&D from most of it's business segments trying to get everything working with SEN and with each other. This would give all of their devices A smooth PSN connected experience. Design the hardware modestly around that chipset and they could have all segments selling profitable devices that leverage their network platform.

This makes all products essentially the same. So one chip upgrade means the entire hardware line is upgraded for Apple like ubiquity. They could sell Personal Media Players, Tablets, Phablets, Smart Phones, Gaming Laptop, Smart Televisions from 100-500 and even at the prices listed would have room for a small margin on hardware given what they retail Vita TV for. Pairing down the amount of models produced and making the few that you make work together in harmony should be Sony's goal. The experience of PSN is very different from Device to Device which I think only hurts Sony.

This could see the fat in the company trimmed while putting a spotlight on it's quickly growing content be it games, music movies or otherwise. I think Sony just enjoys mismanaging itself, infighting, and wasting resources.

I would recommend they ditch the dedicated handheld, at least in terms of hardware.

Instead, I'd say they make an Android App that is fully tied with PSN and your PSN account that only features access to all PSOne Classics and PSP games. This app should be developed for both phones and tablets of specific and more common SoCs such as Qualcomm's Snapdragon (S4 Pro and later) and such. The App would essentially be like an official liscensed emulator. This App can also be tied with PS Now, and therefore feature PS3 titles as well. PSVita and PS2 games can be added when the App has support for stronger SoCs capable of emulating (or if PS Now features them).

This would enable Sony to focus on new revenue from old software by enabling established devices to play them. For example, Sony would be seeing an increase in digital software revenue by simply having the app support their newer Xperia phones and tablets and Samsung's newer U.S. Galaxy devices (All Snapdragon S4 Pro or newer)

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

sadly I don't think they will do another handheld :'(

there really isn't a better piece of kit out there than the vita and there wont be a more powerful handheld which is any way affordable for at least another 5-10 years. They just need to start making sure there is a trickle of games going to the Vita now that they've got the PS4 out the door and everything will be sorted.

Still waiting for the ps4+Vita bundles to start appearing as soon as they get more ps4's manufactured, that'd really give the Vita the userbase it needs to get good games going its way.

A GT game and GTA game would help.

Switch to mobile gaming. The end.

Do you mean that they would switch to mobile gaming and it would be the End of them? Because I kinda agree with you there!

how about no handheld as theirs doesn't seem to able to compete to not only the 3ds but also handhelds

Well since PS5 is supposedly going to be more of a streaming service than a physical platform, just make a portable machine capable of connecting to that service. It doesn't need exclusives or anything. Just make sure it can play the entire PlayStation library. Make it a portable PlayStation with no compromises, smaller screen and limited battery life aside. We don't know how the PS5 will work, so I'll leave those details to Sony, but basically their next handheld should itself be considered a PS5.

They got halfway to this idea with the Vita, but stopped short of going all-in.
