Pokémon X and Y sold a whopping 11.6m copies - roughly equal with the series' last few DS instalments.

For comparisons sake, it's also worth to note, that digital sales have been proven to be extremely low for XY

11.6mil shipped+digital sales. It's probably undertracked but not by 2mil

Edit: Just saw that 9.37mil is for january 11th. Yeah, 2mil undertracked might be possible after all.

Digital sales have been proven to be extremely low in japan. Why wouldn't it be the same elsewhere?

It's easily 10.5m+

Very impressive, can't imagine digital sales making up 2 million of those sales according to vgchartz :O didn't lawlight have a bet with someone about whether x/y would reach 10 million by the end of 2013?
