Well, as an American who prefers almost everyone over Microsoft, I have no concrete ideas.

Two reasons. First off, Americans (and I'm one so I can have an opinion) are trend whores. Quality matters not in the face of what's considered "cool". MS, being an American company, knew this better than anyone. They worked really hard with marketing the original Xbox and Xbox live in such a way as to come off as the "cool" console. If you watch the original Xbox Live adds, they use catch phrases like "trash talk with opponents" and "throw down on Xbox Live" bla bla bla. They appealed directly to the American senses, and it paid off.

The second is because early on, they focused HARD on online gameplay. American's were willing, hungry and ready for online gameplay before the rest of the world. So, naturally, the 360 appealed to them in that way as well.

actually the americans are the least brand loyal

This is true. The only thing we're loyal to are fads. If it's "cool", we're there with credit cards in hand.

The big, massive change that last gen brought, that Microsoft spear-headed, was the attempt to make people feel invested in the eco-system of their choice. This results in people not wanting to switch, as they feel as though their efforts at things like gamer scores, achievements, digital libraries, and giant friends lists will go to waste. It's very clever and quite effective.

Nintendo should have been paying attention. Sometimes being a copy cat is the best thing you can do.

Americans are competitive gaming and respond to competitive marketing that allows them to go head to head. That and they have all the muliplat games. The dude bros who play Madden know to go to the Xbox for the fantasy football as well. Microsoft knows that you need to have the third party edge to win over people. Fifa fans will have a hard time deciding whether they want a PS4 as well with all the exclusive content on the Xbox One version opposed to the PS4.

I didnt know there were FIFA fans in the US.

If you mean europeans, then i lol at you. Its all over the Champions league. Official sponsor: Playstation. Every year, since the PS2.

That is wrong. NA is The least loyal region.

Isn't the Ps4 currently sold out in America?

Hasn't it been sold out since launch? And when stock becomes available, doesn't it get sold out very quickly?

Not sure where the idea came from that Xbox One is winning America. Sony has sold every single Ps4 that it's sent to America iirc. If the Xbox One sells more than PS4 in America when Ps4's can actually be purchased and they are not, then Xbox certainly wins that market. But that's not the case right now

For me, I don't actually prefer one over the other. My heart belongs to Nintendo. Despite what any American stereotypes, I just go for whichever console I think is best, 6th gen, it was PS2, 7th gen it was 360, 8th gen it will likely be PS4. Whatever fits my needs. Why do Americans prefer Microsoft? The consoles actually seem good. That's it.

As previous posters stated before. Us Americans are not brand loyal. We aren't like japan or other countries. I think one of the biggest reasons we flopped to 360 was because of the lower price and it had good games. I think that if the PS4 was actually available at the moment in North America that it would probably outsell the Xbox one mainly due to it's cheaper price tag. $500 is little steep for some people just like how $600 was steep for the PS3.
