Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - The Wii U Strikes Back?

As much as I want the Wii U to succeed, Donkey Kong isn't the best series for selling a large amount of systems. Still a good and fun looking game though, probably might get it.

I dunno but for me every platformer other than mario is boring because Mario has powerups that (even after 20 years) feel fresh. Just jumping around well not so much.

3D platformers are different tho only 2d/2.5d platformers are boring imho.

It does not matter if its visually stunning when the gamplay is repetitive. The only other platformer I liked the since 2005 (when the gen started with 360) was Rayman Origins/Legends but just because it was 4 player coop.

I don't think it will save the Wii U. But just for fun trivia, the first Donkey Kong Country game was the system seller that Super Nintendo the edge over Megadrive/Genesis, they were pretty much tied before that game.

Donkey Kong was never a system seller, at least not since Donkey kong 64.

Will be a great game though I am sure.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Is Donkey Kong really such a big deal for Nintendo? I mean yes I like the Donkey Kong games but going by the hype in this forum it seems to be almost savior like as a franchise. I always regarded Donkey Kong more like an add-on franchise to Mario but never really something big on its own. I guess I'll see when it comes out how big it really is.

It's on track to become the most pre-ordered game for the WiiU thus far -- yes quite possibly even the Mario titles. Expect it to be on the charts for a looong while.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

it will certainly help sell WiiU though not as much as I would hope. It won't save the WiiU that's for sure

I honestly don't get why people are buying systems with barely any good games while leaving WiiU with the best games out there at the moment

Nintendo should be more like the others in hyping numbers to attract the casuals that love grapix and high numbers over gameplay. I bet WiiU would sell more if it was called the Wii 9000!!! they will be like "OMG!! 9000 this must be a good grapix!!!"

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Should have been called the Nintendo U...

Can we just enjoy the game for what it is and not burden every single freaking decent looking Wii U game with having to "save the system"?

Would be nice. Game looks good, I think graphically the lighting has gotten a bump from E3 where I played it and came away a little unimpressed. But really the David Wise soundtrack is going to be the no.1 draw for me to be honest. So awesome to have him back, can't wait to hear the soundtrack. I'm sure it plays great.

Hard mode and now i'm hyped

Hahahahaha. Can't wait for all the METROID U CONFIRMED!!!! threads.
