Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo won't hit their forecasts. How did they get them so wrong?

What's up with the forecasts?

Nintendo are too optimist... 146 68.22%

Nintendo are trying to de... 68 31.78%

Total:214

So April last year Nintendo put out their forecasts for the coming fiscal year. Those included

WiiU HW: 9m
3DS HW: 18m

Along with equally high SW forecasts.

Fastforward to today and it looks like Nintendo will miss both WiiU and 3DS forecasts by 6m a piece.

Now this isn't anything new, Nintendo havn't actually hit a home console forecast in over 3 years (maybe more).

This highlights that Nintendo have failed miserably in reading the market, their expectations are so much higher than they should be.

What's interesting is even last Q when they had the chance to amend them, they didn't. They knew they wouldn't hit them, but they said nothing.

Perhaps they're doing this on purpose, to deceive investors and shareholders? It's one or the other.

... so... this couldn't have been discussed in ANY of the topics we have regarding the Wii U sales? This is seriously ridiculous at this point.

They thought they had another WiiDS success combination.

What??? We don't have conglomerate sales threads on VGC, if you don't like it don't post.

If you look at the Wii U situation at least, Nintendo is completely incapable of reading the market.

But we have tons of threads talking about the Wii U's sales.  We even had one specifically regarding Nintendo's forecasts.  This was completely unneeded.  And if you don't like my post, don't reply.

For the 3DS, they assumed Pokemon and the 2DS would have a bigger effect on sales than it did. So did I to be honest.

As for the WiiU, this was seriously delusional. I guess they thought 3D World would cause the WiiU to be completely sold out every week. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that 9m forecast.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I don't see it anywhere? The picture is far more clearer now than a couple of months ago. You just don't like the subject matter, not my fault. Now stop derailing.

(1) Weak hardware. Developers want more. Weak hardware will not cut it anymore.
(2) Not enough compelling 1st/3rd party software. Gamers want a console with balance.
(3) Out dated online. Gamers are playing online at a very high rate. Nintendo needs to get their online act together.

They have a home console that's irrelevant to the most of the industry... They missed the mark big time, and there's many reasons why.

For the 3DS... I can kind of understand there optimism there... It's a pretty solid piece of hardware, with tons of good software.
