Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: PS4 wont do as good in japan as some people are thinking

what do you think?

it will sell more than your prediction 59 38.82%

it will sell about the same 48 31.58%

it will sell lower 33 21.71%

See results 12 7.89%

PS4 wont do as good in japan as it is doing in the west. I do not agree with those who are saying it will do around 500K at launch. i expect a launch between 290k-370k and for weekly sales to be 20k-35k after the launch period, when weekly sales settle down and lauch hype is over. and honestly, i wouldnt be surprised to see it fall to 15k weekly sales after a few months after launch.

It's going to bomb, hard. Japanese people is tired of companies from their same country to treat them as a "tier-2" consumer. So they'll look up into companies from different places, such as America, and that will make X1 sales in Japan flourish, which will destroy competition.

Nah. The problem with Ouya is...well...it's like a mobile, except because they can't fucking carry it and play on the train.

Ouya definitively needed a screen!

It all depends on the games. I keep seeing people say that console gaming is dead in Japan, but the reality is that companies are just not making games anymore for home consoles that the Japanese want to play. COD / GTA both dont do very good over there, and the Final Fantasy games have been pretty crappy compared to the RPG's on 3DS/Vita. The Wii U is picking up steam because Wii Party U quirkyness resonates over there, plus with games like Hyrule Warriors,X, Bayonetta, Monster Hunter, and Dragon Quest being on Wii U, it has the lineup that the Japanese want. I actually wouldnt be shocked if the PS4 combed pretty hard over there until some more games that they want are released. Its doing well right now in the US because of COD/BF4, but if those werent on it, no one would care here either.

PS4 will sell great during its first month in Japan. To keep the sales up, they need games that interest the japanese gamer's taste if not, than it will track 20-50k per week.

ouya definitely needed to be taken as a joke, but something went wrong and people thought it was serious. i mean, i refuse to believe there is someone that stupid to think the ouya was a good idea to make, sell and try make a profitable business off of.

Ouya is the most successful Kickstarter project ever. It reached 8 million dollars when it merely asked for 950k.

I always found it odd that PS3 always did so well over there, since it seems to appeal far more to a Western audience and holds few popular Japanese exclusives, while Wii (currently) and Wii U struggle, when Nintendo seems to put its focus far more on a Japanese audience, and holds the more popular Japanese franchises like Mario, Wii Sports, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, etc..
