Forums - Gaming Discussion - Name a game you have been originally unfair to but later changed your mind

Here is how it goes: pick a game you thought you have been unfair to, be it by the time of the release or just when you first came to know it, because later, giving it more thought or seeing it again, you realized it was much better than you had originally thought.

I myself feel that way about F-Zero X. When the original one came out it totally blew my mind, ears and specially eyes because of the so very crisp, crystal clear images. When X came about, I just could not get it: where were the crisp graphics? Why were the tracks so wide? Why does it play so differently? Does it really have to be so foggy (many newer 64 games had found a way to send the fog away or diminish it considerably)?

Back then, I could not notice what an achievement in FPS and number of cars on the screen the game was. Since the style was so different from the first game, I probably got many expectations unmet. Nowadays, seeing how it runs flawlessly and noticing the struggle some modern games go up against frame drops, I see I was very unfair to it.

How about you?

Gears of War. Hated the series at first but going back and playing them and especially Gears 3 I changed my mind and actually enjoyed the series.

Bayonetta. I used to hate Platinum Games for this game alone. I played the heck out of MadWorld, Metal Gear Rising and Vanquish. So I went back to Bayonetta. While I do consider it merely good (all hype and critics considered), Platinum Games is now one of my favourite gaming developers, and I must say, Bayonetta is a pretty good game.

I remember giving up on Shadow of the Collossus because the controls were weird and it was confusing. Fortuneatly I gave it a second chance and now its in my top 10

Gravity Rush.

Hated the controls, rage quit a few times, but stuck it through and now really think it's a great game. Controls take time to get used to, but I'll buy the sequel.

Probably Final Fantasy II (SNES) for me. I played it when I was younger and didn't really "get" it. I think it was my first turn-based RPG and I was just overwhelmed by the rules and strategy. After replaying it a few years ago I realize how amazing and influential it is.

Good thread

-Bayonetta. After the first trailer, I made a thread called Bayonetta Looks Like Crap or something. Now, it's one of my favorite 7th gen titles. Probably an all time favorite.

-Grand Theft Auto V. Didn't even want this game. I was kinda tired of sandbox games and GTA4 was a huge letdown for me. I figured Saints Row 4 would be enough. Now that I have my hands on GTAV, I am happy to eat every single word.

I hope SOMEBODY says Tomb Raider 2013. That game rocked.

Miku: Project Diva Extended for the PsP emulated on my Galaxy s4 using PPSSPP

Like Come on Sega... You expect me to hit those hard precision combos using a touch screen? Kidding me? I can barely even clear dem Songs in Easy Mode... Yet another case when the developer of the game didn't think that their game would be used for emulation on a smartphone... Tsk Tsk Tsk... Least the songs are good

Rhythm thief & the emperor's treasure on 3ds... There are times when it uses the 3ds's motion control for presision which is the worst thing in the world in a game where the key is to hit the button presses on time! But the story was good and it didn't use it all too often thank god!

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

When I was 14 years old in '99 I didn't understand why Squall of FF8 was the way he was.
Later I understood his character.

Thanks! Yours, about game X and Y (the "not Pokemon" got me to LOL) is great, but I have not found an opening to talk there. Guess I am too old and the games are too new.
