Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Pokemon XY Become The Top Selling 3DS Game? *I Was Right*

Im pretty sure it will over pass to Rank 1 because, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 was released in 2011 with 8.8-8.9 Million. But with the Pokemon X/Y just recently released and already has 8.3 Million and selling like 100+300+ each week, im sure it will pass it by like 2-3 months from now. Like just look how much it sold this week December 14. It told 400k. So yea, Im sure it will be the most selling title on the 3DS

Pokemon XY is being bundled with 2DS's in north america and europe

So what? It'll have the same effect on Pokemon XY sales as the Mario 3D Land bundle had on Mario 3D Land sales. What is different about the deal going on in Europe/Australia now is that Mario 3D Land is a freebie that comes when you buy a 3DS XL with one of a set of games. It's not bundled, it's a deal. So people will be getting Mario 3D Land as a result of buying another game, rather than getting it with their system.

I'm not saying the Pokemon bundle will have the same effect, as the give away, i just think it will be enough to stop mario's legs.

How and why would it stop Mario's legs? The Pokémon bundle increases the userbase and Mario benefits from this.

Practically every new 3DS or 3DS XL owner in Europe from 27th of November to 13th of Januari is going to own Super Mario 3D Land. It will probably appear as if Pokémon is outselling it but 3D Land's legs are far from tired. It's even possible this is Mario's best year in Europe.

Digital sales are making these predictions really hard and the way they have been pushing eShop I wouldn't be surprised to see a substantial increase in digital revenue over the last couple of months. I expect games with long legs to perform even better on the eShop in the coming years.

meh, i'd say it won't. the thing about Pokemon games is that they release a bit frequently these days (9 games on the DS, 5 games even on the short lived GBA), and Mario 3D Land/MK7/NSMB2 will most likely remain the only original incarnations of their respective franchises on the 3DS, so while there will only be 1 3D Mario/Mario Kart/ 2D Mario, there will be who knows how many Pokemon games, which is why i believe the DS pokemon games didn't outsell NSMB and Mario Kart DS, there were too many Pokemon games to choose from.

Yes, I firmly believe Pokemon XY will be the top selling 3DS game, ever; nothing will surpass it. I'm willing to bet on that too :)

I'm willing to bet on it too. :)

I'd take that bet ;)

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

as far as your statement goes it seems about correct but plssssssss dont say there were that many games cuz its not true.

Pair games=/= 2 games  ..... Pair Games= 1 game so its 3 GBA Pokemon games and 5 DS games!!!! Srry its just gives me a headache with this (once again, not necessarily you but others that try to say they milk pokemon which imo is BS)

they don't milk pokemon. but yeah i guess you're right, and now that i think about it, it gives Pokemon another advantage because a lot of hardcore pokemon fans will buy both versions, so that adds 2 sales instead of one :P

Yeah, I'm sure it will be. And likely to hold that title all through out the 3DS life span.

I agree! That's why I really wish that we could see the sales for them separately , to see how well they are each doing. They probably get a lot of extra copies sold for people who buy both.

Maybe, Mario Kart had massive legs on the DS, it might surpass Pokemon one day, but it's not guarenteed. Pokemon released at the right time, during peak 3DS hype.

Not to mention, Both mario games have had years and holidays under it's belt, while this is pokemon's first year and holiday, meaning it's legs are still relatively young
