Forums - Gaming Discussion - Lag on X1's HDMI input is barely noticeable.

The people in the video even say themselves the lag makes the game hard to play, even the biggest xbox fanboy at IGN, Ryan said so.

Your argument is too black and white. For games where timing is crucial, that fraction of a second lag might be an issue. But for most games, its not a big deal.

I beat several games using OnLive, a little lag does not cripple most games.

Sony bought Gaikai because they know a little lag is tolerable for most games. Bear in mind cloud gaming has more lag.

I'd say most games the lag is important in platformers, shooters, racers, fighters, etc.  I don't see it being significant in games like turn-based/strategy RPGs.  Also idk about onlive, I've never used it but I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-zu9VHWb0w, input lag looks nonexistent, not anywhere close to this.

250ms is a fraction of a second and also a massive lag for games. sorry, but i've seen the videos and the lag is too big for anything but turned based rpgs. ...there is a reason input lag was my number 1 criteria when buying my new hdtv. anything over 50ms is disastrous.

I played some Street Fighter III, Forza Horizon, and Dead Rising 2. The lag had little impact. I found it most noticeable when I was playing Crysis but that doesn't mean it was difficult to play.

I've used OnLive many times, used very fast internet connections, and completed several games in various genres. There is lag.

I assure you the average gamer doesn't care about lag as much as yourself.

The games are still very playable.

And the average Gamer doesn't frequent the forums do they so whats the point of this thread? And I can attest to the fact that xb1 HDMI input does introduce quite a bit of lag. I can easily feel it playing my ps3 games vs direct HDMI to the TV.

I doubt even people on this forum were researching the lag on their television.

I attest the lag is minor! Games still playable!

I tested a few PS3 games running through the HDMI in port (Super Street Fighter IV: AE, Persona 4 Arena, Killzone 2, Sonic Generations and MGS VR Missions just for kicks) and it worked just fine. There was a little bit of a delay but it was definitely playable and no where near as bad as some people in this thread make it out to be.

I wouldn't replace the HDMI in for just connecting it to the TV but if some reason you had to, you should have no problems with casual play.

This^

coments being used such as "ive seen the videos" it's obvious when someone hasn't actually played a game through it. Most things are playable. you just wouldn't want to play competive through it, it would count as a disadvantage.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

I would be surprised if there is no lag. I have a Game Capture box and the lag from the 360 to the PC is very noticeable and unplayable. In fact if I watch the screen and listen to the sound on the PC, they are a few seconds out and very distracting.

250 thousanths of a second is insignificant in most scenarios.  I've been playing CoD Ghosts on X1 for that past three days on an LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connection with 350+ ms lag and I am not having any issues holding my own with people who play a lot more online then I do.

Also, I have had my X360 hooked up through my X1 since day one.  I notice no difference in gameplay while on my 360 through the X1...  It is just as smooth as a direct connect to the TV as far as I am concerned.  There seems to be no difference in the lag of the X1 HDMI pass thru than a standard home receiver by Onkyo, Sony, Pioneer, etc.
