Hey guys and gals.  I'm thinking to get a Nintendo system for my kids (6 & under).

We have a DS and Wii.  Initially I picked up a 3DS with Mario & Luigi Dream Team, but I'm having second thoughts and thinking about returning it and getting a Wii U SMBU set instead.

- Reasons against 3DS: Kids were playing M&LDT at a store and it seemed too complex for them.  The 3D function seems to show double image unless you're in a perfect sweet spot and I think is straining.
- Reasons for 3DS: Costs less than Wii U, has some good games and it's portable.
- Reasons for Wii U: More can play or watch at the same time.  Can still play around the home on gamepad.  More games I would play :P

Which would you get, with what games and why?

Definitely return it and get either a 2DS with another game or a Wii U. 3D feature shouldn't be used for children 6 and under anyway. Mario and Luigi Dream team is probably way too complex for young kids as well. Something like New Super Mario Bros 2 or Luigi's Mansion would be a lot more appropriate.

Wii U is also excellent for multiple kids and families. Games like Nintendo Land or either Mario games are perfect for multiple players. Some of the best multiplayer fun I've ever had was with NSMBU and Nintendo Land. Shit is too good!

I have a Wii U and love it, and I'm about to buy a 3ds (as soon as I get out on winter break). But I would say return it and get a Wii U so they can play it at the same time. Also Nintendo desperately needs people to buy the Wii U!

I say wiiU cause there are going to be some amazing games in 2014 and Super Mario 3d Land is fun with multiple people

Wii U is a better choice for christmas than 3DS or the cheaper 2DS...

3DS is more a birthday gift than a christmas... Get a Wii U and buy Super Mario 3D World.

If it's just one kid then I'd say get a 3DS. If you're buying for the whole family then get a WiiU.

Uh, don't let under-6s play video games. It can wait.
