Forums - Sony Discussion - Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on KZ Shadowfall? MP and SP ....

Tagged games:

Well enough time has passed and I trust most have spent enough time with this one. I've been hearing divergent opinions about this game. Some give it praise while others offer nothing but negative criticism in relation to it. One of my good friends HATES the mp while my cousin claims otherwise. The former finds the campaign is uninteresting while the latter finds it is one of the best in the series (note, both are fans). I've only played the single player for 2 hours or so, and from what I played it was decent, but I didn't complete it, so my opinion at this point holds very little weight. I want to hear the thoughts of others, especially KZ fans. How did the campaign and mp stack up to you?

won't have kz until around march so clearly,.. not enough time has passed. :P

Tagging for more robust review in the future.

Now I'll just say, after 6 SP chapters and about an 1,5 hours of multi, that I really enjoy the singleplayer which is surprising considering that I like shooters linear, and like the MP portion as well, although need to get more grip with the specific KZ mechanics more.

MP isn't anything mindblowing though, while SP is very good imo at least up to the point where I am.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I love the start, good level design, great graphics, awesome sound design. Chapter 4 was a bit of a mixed bag, 5 was excellent again. From chapter 6 it started to go downhill again. (I hate defend the position until we run out of spawning enemies crap) I'm currently in chapter 8, but AC4 and GT6 have stolen my attention. I'll get back to it later.

I definitely want to play the first part over again with the sound cranked up. I hope chapter 9 or 10 will redeem the end of the game. MADDER audio processing is a great step in the right direction for sound. It really helps immersion to have realistic sound reflections instead of the standard reverb filters.

MP is great. Really brings back the magic of the old Halos. Really love the "Like a Boss" warzone.

SP is all over the place. It definitely loses momentum half way through as the openness of the beginning levels fades away to shooting galleries. Loved the atmosphere and world building but the story was bland. Didn't really care. I'd say it's average.

Story ending spoliers:

Really mixed feelings about the ending. All of a sudden when the credits started rolling I was like wtf? Set down the controller thinking "um ok I guess" and started walking away. It felt too soon. Suddenly it started glitching out and loaded the new level. "OMG OMG THIS IS CRAY!" Right then and there I paused the game and went and told everyone I could find what just happened! I was AMAZED! Went back and started the mission. Killed the guy and the real credits started. Then again I was liek wtf? If they had another two or three hours after the fake ending and gave the story an actual resolution I would have loved it.

Well here goes.
Sp-pretty , but boring. There are open areas, but it eventfully becomes like other common shooters. That would be fine if there weren't sections with mundane actions like carry something and plugging it into the floor. Weird zero gravity sections didn't help it either. The campaign is such a drag that I never finished it. I finished both previous kz games.
Mp- Previous games mp never really caught me and this didn't either. The maps are fine, but matches turn into base camping quite a lot. No voice chat is kind of weird. There aren't that many guns either compared to other series like bf4. I liked it enough, but it isn't something I would stick around for.
Overall-disappointing as my first ps4 game, I like previous kz sp more then this borefest.

Tagging as I'm interested in opinions too. I got my PS4 this past weekend and only have Resogun and DC Universe.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

My opinion:

SP: Very pretty! I find myself staring at the ground a lot just looking at the textures. Gameplay is solid, but not really all the special. I also felt the pacing and difficulty all over the place. Basically, graphics are incredibly, but the rest of the game is pretty average. 7/10

MP: Also pretty, and does a pretty good job as walking the line between twitch, call of duty type gameplay and more strategic halo type gameplay. This is probably the better part if the game, but not anything we havent seen before. 8/10

Overall 7.5/10

Did they fail with the symbolism then? I heard it was likened to the Cold War in some sense. That's another reason why I started this thread. Some have claimed it is the best in the series. Looks like I'll have to play it for myself.
