Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One 1080p Captures With and Without Filter

I found this interesting topic on GAF.

We already know Xbone uses a darker and sharpness filter in games sub-1080p (the exception is Ryse because Crytek didn't used the native updcale created by MS... they developed it own).

So a guy in GAF changed the setthig of his TV and Xbone to output in native 720p... so no upscale is used... see the difference.

You can see better colors and detail on bottom (no upscaller) and less aliasing on top (upscaller).

The fur looks really bad in the bottom pictures, though.

Donkey Kong would be shocked and dismayed.

I personally prefer the top pictures for the majority (maybe not the first two as we do not see the background details very well) but for the rest all the lighter 720p screens looks more "artificial" for my taste and way too bright.

Too bad we cannot get the same dark filter on 720p picture (without upscaling); I would be happy :)

The top screens look more realistic, but some of the details in the background are missing. For example in the third set of pictures a lot of the detail on the wall is missing as a result of it being too dark. Perhaps they could find a happy medium?

Top pics better. Bottom pics are overly bright with no contrast, which is unrealistic.

I hate greyish blacks. I see so many people that have their tv's set up wrong when watching movies.

The best result would be nearer to the top than the bottom.

LOL. The top pictures are horrible. Most of the screen is so dark that a lot of detail is lost. You say the top is better and talk about wrongly set up TVs? That is crazy, it seems you hate accurate colors.

So the bottom pics is what Killer Instinct really looks like without all the filters?

Nice info for those who prefer the brighter option and for those who like it darker well it doesn't change anything...

Sorry bud, tops are better, they provide better contrast plus the bottom ones look a bit washed up.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Top pictures are indeed horrible, I had this problem with some titles on my 360 last year after one update that messed up things. I hate when blacks become so black that half of the screen is nearly turned off, it's unrealistic and it's awful. What should be done is that you have it set to no upscale(bottom pic) but you adjust your TV settings instead, that way you get a better feel of how it was intended to look like and that you can put in whatever effect you like.

It's like photography, you never go for overly-saturated pictures that makes you think that they are more detailed and that they pop - image quality takes a hit from this. What you want is a natural picture taken directly from it's source then you can put in some effects that you like(on a tv that would be your picture-settings)

Top looks better, that smoke in the first pictures are supposed to be that dark. Just turned on KI now and if it was super light I wouldn't like it.
