But why should I have to? My consoles are plug in and play. PC games are not so much better than console games to make me go through the additional hassle of Dosbox or dual operating systems.

I haven't just bought a new computer and I don't own Vista. My fiance does however and getting old games to run on it is a joke. Age of Mythology specifically said it wouldn't work on Vista but it does while Empire Earth and Glory of the Roman Empire didn't mention it on the packaging but will not work.

Oh, so when you plug in your Wii, you can slip your old SNES cartriges in the disc drive and boot it up? Please, console backwards compatability isn't even comparable to PC backwards compatability. Is it more of a hassle to reboot your PC and select a different OS or to pull your SNES out of the closet, unplug your Wii, and your cable hookup and plug it in?

Rebooting is more hassle. All my consoles are permanently hooked up to my TV. It's just as easy for me to play a SNES game or a Mega Drive game as it is to play a Wii game. And that still wouldn't solve my problem as neither XP nor Vista can run the games I want to play. My original Worms disc hasn't worked since Windows 95 and Bomberman last saw the light on Windows 98.

Well now you've changed the discussion.  You were talking about backwards compatability, but now you say you don't use BC because you hook up everything at once.  That aside, are you trying to tell me that none of the internal batteries in your old cartridges have died?  Because half my SNES games can no longer save.  Poor poor Earthbound

All I know is that if the Cockface in the Black Turtleneck (his true birthname) ever offered a headless Mac with removable video cards in the $1000-1500 range, I would be right back into PC gaming. I miss it dearly but after switching whole-heartedly to Macs awhile back for design work, I don't have the room or patience to keep three computers up, running, and current, especially if one of them is purely for gaming.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

not realizing it was flamebait against the 360, is in the wrong forum, and basically was a vehicle to sponsor two or three dead topics in the PC forum through links. Why this topic hasn't been moved to the Microsoft forum yet is beyond me.
what flamebait? only PURE LIST of exclusive x360 games. =)
Not in x360 forum, because GAMERS have RIGHT to know, before choising between PC and x360.
and that 360 has great exclusive games because it's been out longer.
i wouldn`t say that there left great exclusive games on x360 today. =)))
Do you know what their next SKU is going to be and how much it's going to be? I would think you'd know cause you are such a PS3 fan.
GDC is very soon. =)

Nobody is ignoring it as a gaming platform. We're ignoring it as a console. We don't sit here and compare the Nintendo DS library to the Xbox 360 library. We don't sit here and compare the PC library to the mobile phone library. Apples and oranges. Wii, 360 and PS3 are apples. They all taste very similiar. PC is an orange. It tastes similiar because it's a fruit, but has it's own distinct taste. Some people like apples over oranges. Some like oranges over apples. Some like both equally. You just don't compare them. They are not equal. Get it? Just because Bioshock is on PC and 360 does not make it a multiplatform game. It is an exclusive on each machine. Same as the PC game Zuma. It is an exclusive on the PC. Now another version of Zuma is on mobile phones. That version is exclusive. Another version resides on the 360. That version is exclusive.(Sue me if PSN has Zuma on it, because I don't know. Just trying to make a point)

My PC is good enough to run many recent games, but I haven't really played games on the platform since the days of Monkey Island 2 and Betrayal at Krondor (with the exceptions of Grim Fandango and The Curse of Monkey Island). I even bought Escape From Monkey Island for PS2 rather than PC. As with some others, I simply enjoy the experience of playing on a console far more than a PC.

This isn't, of course, to say that anyone else should feel this way. Those who suggest that anyone who owns a capable enough PC would always choose the PC version, however, are simply incorrect. I haven't bought a PC game for something like six years.

No one has said that people who have both options will always choose the PC version. Just that the fact that there are PC versions of most major 360 games affects the sales of the console negatively. Especially in places where PC gaming is stronger than console gaming like Germany. That said, what is it about the console experience that you prefer?

I suppose I was referring to this part of one of kingofwale's posts:

"People buy a console for exclusives, and if they can get the game they want in a PC (the truth is, more people own a PC than xbox), they'd just get it for PC. It's the case for me, as I never got used to playing FPS on console"

As for what I prefer about the console experience, I like the fact that the games don't require installation or maintenance and consoles (generally) don't require upgrades; I prefer gamepad controls to keyboard/mouse and local multiplayer is a very important feature to me.  My PC is upstairs in an office and my consoles are downstairs hooked up to a plasma TV and a surround-sound system in a room full of comfortable furniture.  Sure, I can drag the PC downstairs and hook it up to the TV (I even went so far as to swap in a motherboard that supports HDMI-out), but due to the hassle involved I've only done it a couple of times.  Regardless, I'd rather be playing multiplayer games on a system that has a standard, unified control setup than a PC for which every gamepad I've ever bought has ranged from half-decent to wretched.

I suppose another big factor is that most of my favorite games are of Japanese origin, and are generally console-exclusive.

Hates Nomura.

The PC is far more closely related to the Xbox 360 and PS3 than the Wii is.  If you can boot up the exact same game on 2 different consoles, guess what?  Those consoles are related.  Both from a sales and gaming standpoint.  I played through Bioshock on PC.  My friend played through Bioshock on 360.  It took both of us 20 hours.  We both saw the same dialogue, fought the same big daddies, the same bosses, and the same plot.  My version looked a little better, but it was the same game.

Now comparing a Wii verison to a PS3 and 360 version is different, because the design of the game is actually different, but the HD consoles and the PC are absolutely in direct market competition.  That said, it doesn't hurt Microsoft that most of the games they have on 360 are also on PC, because the PC is basically their platform as well.  It does hurt 360 sales though.

Here's another point. The Dreamcast loses almost all of it's exclusives, like Cannon Spike, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, etc. because for $2000 you can just buy the arcade machine it was ported from. Wow! That makes perfect sense! This is what I hear when you people say that 360 loses it's exclusives because another, completely different type of gaming platform has the same game. That's fine. When Tekken 6 hits PS3 this year, don't tell me it's a console exclusive, because you can just go play it at an arcade. It's multiplatform!

You know what. You're right. The Wii is too different. It should also be compared to no one elses line-up. I'll give you that. I was just in another topic yesturday, arguing about how Wii Sports was unjustly reviewed because reviewers don't know how to review Wii games as a Wii game. It doesn't help your point about PC gaming out any though. It just alienates the Wii.

I own a PS3 and a PC. I have played gears of war and Bio shock on my PC. I don't own a xbox 360 so those games can't be exclusive. Otherwise how would I play them without a xbox 360.

You can't just exclude the PC because "many people prefer to play on consoles." I know many people that prefer to play on a 360 vs. a ps3 because of the controller and XBL, but does that mean we should exclude the ps3 and start listing all ps3/360 multiplats as 360 exclusives? No.

You can't just exclude a platform. It doesn't work that way.
