This is fucking ridiculous. It hasn't even been the first week and these PS4s are doing this? Won't this cost Sony A LOT of money?? Since they're already selling at a loss?

Mine lasted 3 days......

It sucks because Ive been seriously enjoying Killzone

sorry to hear that.

I won't be getting mine until March. I'm hoping those that are having difficulties and need replacements/refurbishments don't have the luck I did with ps3 this generation (had to send it in 3 times

Mark my words, if this thing is as spread as it seems, Sony Playstation will not survive, they cannot take a blow like that, even Andrew White said, "if the PS4 fails, it is over, we need to make this one right".

Losing 1 or 2 million launch consoles will destroy Sony

Doubt it.

Play Station is a very successful brand. If PS4 underperforms, investors won't back down.

Obviously some serious restructurization of the department has to be made.

Damn, that's unfortunate.

And I'm assuming you got yours from Gamestop and not Amazon.

I read the manual it comes with a 1 year warranty

Yeah but an extended warranty is probably worth it. The amount of PS4s failing is rising

No way will Sony falter from launch issues such as this.

Keep in mind, that Sony has a massive and very loyal (To the point of chewing their own leg off if they were chained to a pole by an Xbox!) following.
When Sony had the exploding battery fiasco, people eventually forgot.
When Sony removed hardware backwards compatability and OtherOS/Linux from the Playstation 3, people eventually forgot.
When  Sony's online network was hacked and people had financial information stolen, people eventually forgot.

Sony have historically always had a few problems with optical drives in it's consoles, some PS1's would actually have the optical sled wear out, so the only way you could use the machine is if you had the console tilted on a book, the PS2 and PS3 had it's fair share of issues in regards to optical drives failing too.

Fact of the matter is, all things electronic and mechanical that is made by man is prone to failure, it's impossible for it not to, the problem is then compounded by a consumers ever-increasing-demand for devices to be made cheaper, one of the ways to do that is to have sub-par manufacturing in places like China.

Lets also not discount the fact the Xbox 360 had massive amounts of hardware failures just after it's launch, yet it's gone on to still sell 80+ million consoles in it's life time, which to be honest is nothing to sneeze at.
One thing that shouldn't/I hope that doesn't happen however is for Sony to have a complete monopoly this next generation, that would in general be bad for everyone. - That's how we got the Playstation 3 which had a rollercoaster ride on launch, marred by a high price.

Sony is in for the long haul with the Playstation 4, initial issues will be forgotten in time or merely over-shadowed by a competitors issue, just roles have reversed from being focused on the Xbox One's problems (DRM, Price, Resolution etc') to the Playstation 4's for awhile.

This has me worried._. Theothers wre doa so told myself i was fine since it had been working. Well your post inspired me to get non accidental warranty

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Yikes, sorry to hear that.
I was planning to get a PS4 in February but I think I'll wait a year before getting one cause I don't trust consoles released this early in the generation. Most people have problems with consoles bought early as well.
