If it sold poorly, could we be happy?

Absolutely.

Let's worry about next-year's numbers when we're actually there ;O

But if you do that, you'll be unprepared. Better think up some excuses right now, so you don't struggle come January.

Is this coming from experience?

no problem, we will just reuse some of the excuses we have when things went bad for the vita, there are tons to chose from.

Don't be happy about year three of four sales too, you never know what will happen in the fifth year. Never be happy just to be on the safe side.

Guys, I meant those people who already act as if this means that next gen is already a huge success and that there is no doubt that PS4 will sell like PS2 and those who will probably say that Xbox One will easily sell more as 360 after a for the Xbox franchise record launch.

Everyone can be obviously happy about such a huge launch. Thought that it is obvious that the launch sales are awesome and didn't even mention that.Just meant that this isn't automatically an indicator for the future of the next gen.

I see what you're saying and I kinda agree.  We had those that were giddy with joy seeing the 3DS outsell original DS for a while--but as the OG DS picked up steam, the 3DS slowed down.  What's going to matter is if the PS4 has legs and, despite what nobody can dispute is a stellar launch, I don't think the 8th gen will come close to matching the 7th gen in sales and awesomeness.

So kinda like the 3DS where it sold extremely well for a while outselling the Original DS in the same time frame, but then the DS picked up slack whole the 3DS slowed down and the DS outsold it by 10 million?
EDIT: beaten :P

Not really relevant as theyre handhelds, and the DS has a much wider range of games available to it over its lifetime, but more importantly has less competition, a cheaper pricetag and was sold before the economy fell apart.
