Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Needs a New Franchise for Wii U

i agree with the notion that they need an FPS.
while I'm not a fan of the genre, it's an important one.
Nintendo has a lot of franchises in different genres, Mario - (Mainly) Platformer, Zelda/Metroid - Adventure, Fire Emblem/Xenoblade - RPG, Mario Kart - Racing, Smash Bros - Fighting, Pikmin - RTS, and many others. yet afterall this time they don't have a 1st party FPS franchise :/

With how popular FPS titles have been since the start of 7 generation. It amazes me that Nintendo have yet to make their very own online multi-player FPS title after all this time. Even though Nintendo had major success in offline competitive FPS shooters with split screen multi-player in Goldeneye. It's not like Online console FPS are suddenly such a new thing as the very first one was released over 13 years ago (Quake III Arena Dreamcast). It genre Nintendo have careless overlooked for very long time in my opinion and arguably to there own cost with how big the genre has now become.

They should just buy the James Bond game rights back. As far as I know they're available after Activision opted not to renew their deal.

The Bond license would give them a big headstart in getting attention for such a game because people already know the brand and even associate it with Nintendo.

i'd love another Nintendo branded James Bond shooter. Goldeneye was the shit!

It would also give them a flagship franchise for the older crowd that they desperately need. They've tried to shoe horn Metroid into that spot awkwardly for like 10 years but it just doesn't have widespread appeal. Unfortunately I don't think its in Nintendo to make a move like this these days. The Japanese side runs the ship, and they're too clueless about matters like this. If Nintendo had Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa back then maybe.

Miyamoto is working on one. If I keep pursuing videogames I want to create a RPG for Nintendo. Well, not create but be the Scenario writer and concept artist.

The bond license would certainly help at least in the short term to kick start Nintendo re-entry into the competitive FPS shooter market.

Even if that not option they should least at the very least add online multiplayer to the next Metroid Prime game. It still puzzles to this day why there wasn't some kind of online multiplayer mode included with Metroid Prime 3.

i just clicked on some links on google, and from what i understand, Goldeneye pushed the N64 hardware sales past Wii levels?

Maybe because of supply constraints on the Wii, but I think that's wrong. N64 did had a monster holiday in Christmas 1997 though, far better than any that the GameCube or Wii U looks likely to have and yes a lot of that can be attibuted to the surprise break out success of GoldenEye.

I had friends that openly hated Nintendo but bought an N64 anyway just for GoldenEye, lol.
