Forums - Sales Discussion - Global HW 12th of Oct. Pokemon week! Beyond!

I just love how everyone was saying pokemon would kill the vita, yet it barely moved hardware and vita sales skyrocketed to almost 100k. I knew all along pokemon would not move a lot of hardware.

500k first week WW for Beyond hopefully and a million the first year. I hope it will reach that milestone at least without any major discounts. I think it is a success then seeing that they didn't need that much money in comparison with Heavy Rain.

Pokemon is always amazing!

And I hope Sony releases Vita 2000 and Vita TV soon with more localized games. I really want God Eater 2 and Freedom Wars very soon.

Barely moved hardware? Is that what you call a 100% increase? 3DS hardware was roughly doubled this week in every major region. Globally, this is the highest week for 3DS hardware since the first of the year, coming off the heels of Holiday 2012.

really? Vita had 6 colors and a new model and that is japan. LOL pokemon going to rip through the holidays, 3DS in US is most likely undertracked

Wii U in for a bumpy ride I expect.

Wii U will go down until new bundles come for Japan and the new games should push hardware across all regions, it'll probably slow down a bit then go back up once SM3DW. Holidays should be a good indication of how Wii U will fare in the long run

At this point, "bumpy" is an improvement, haha.

3DS hardware seems kind of low in America. There are two weeks of greater hardware sales for the handheld this year -- already kind of suspect. The first was the week ending March 30, coinciding with the release of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. It opened with 271k sales and the 3DS sold over 70k. The second was the week ending June 15, when Animal Crossing: New Leaf was released with an opening week of 249k sales. The 3DS sold over 83k that week.

These two games opened with under 300k sales, yet pushed more hardware than a new Pokemon generation debuting with over 1.3 million sales -- plus a new model, the 2DS.

I don't like playing the "undertracked" card, but it's a possibility here. The numbers are suspicious to me.

Well in all likelihood, 1.3m is probably higher than the actual numbers at retail.  1.3m in the US probably means close to 1.5m for the Americas.  Add in the 2 million from retail/download cards in Japan, and we are already pretty close to 4 million.  That would leave around 500k for US day two, Europe first two days, and worldwide digital.  There's a chance Nintendo wasn't including digital and meant several hundred thousand more than 4 million, but I'd be surprised.

With that said, hardware does seem abnormally low.

Yeah, even if Pokemon itself is overtracked, it's not by over a million. There's no way around the fact that this is by far the biggest 3DS release of the year in the US, yet pushed less hardware than Luigi's Mansion or Animal Crossing. It just doesn't quite match up to me.

no relation between those facts. vita sold well because of the new model in japan, it will dive next week.

and I wouldn't call the best non holiday 3ds week "barely moving hardware".
