Forums - Sony Discussion - Bernard: I'd Become a Sony First-Party Developer in a Heartbeat

Visionary reckons Vita is the best handheld

Mecho Wars creator Luc Bernard loves the PlayStation Vita. Speaking as part of an exclusive interview, the ambitious British developer, who’s currently hard at work on free-to-play action game Reaper, told us that he thinks that the device is the greatest handheld system on the market – and that he’d happily go first-party if given the opportunity.

“I honestly think that the Vita is the best portable gaming machine out there, [and] I would become a Sony first-party developer in a heartbeat if I got the chance,” he beamed. “We released Mecho Wars on the PlayStation Portable at the end of its life, and this time I want to support the Vita as much as I can.”

Bernard has stated on Twitter that all of his future titles will release on the pocketable platform – including the fascinating Imagination Is the Only Escape, which is about a young boy trying to flee from the Holocaust. While the title’s been bubbling around for a while, the developer has struggled to find a publisher – but it sounds like something that Sony would jump at, doesn’t it?

“Working with Sony on Mecho Wars was great – I would say that they are the best console manufacturer to work with,” he told us last month. “They were just fantastic. I can't mention much about Imagination Is the Only Escape yet, but [the platform holder is] looking at it – and I hope that they think that it fits their machine."

It may not be setting the sales charts alight, but the Vita appears to be establishing a rabid fanbase among the development community. If the Japanese giant can continue to nurture creative and passionate minds like Bernard, then there’s no reason why the device can’t continue to carve out a sizeable niche for itself moving forwards.

I'd welcome it since hardly any of sony's first party studio is working on the vita.

Edit: Outside of japan

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Funny guy... you have complained about xbo trolling and here you are.

On the thread topic, good for him, I agree and I have had both systems and I love playing my vita and play it actively, especially at lunch. I look forward to see what he will bring to the system as there are many indies that look like good fun. Also with the ps4 remote play, good things are coming, good things.(Grandmas Boy Reference)

He says its the best handheld, without saying why.

Is it the most powerful? the easiest to develop for? the best colour with the prettiest buttons? the best at selling software and making him money?....

Probably all of those ^^ never know he may just like gaming on it, He said he was a fan of the psp aswell. Who knows I just thought it was interesting and seen as Vita gets so much stick, I thought id post it to give my vita brethren something to smile about :P

I think its pretty obviouys he was expressing his OWN opinion, and that probably means one or all of the following: best hardware, easiest to develop for, best place for indies, best regarding to raw power, best regarding controll implementation etc. Its not that hard, to fill in the blanks

Funny, because I share fully his opinion :)

Sorry?  Trolling why? Please explain why this is trolling.  Careful now...

On this site it can be anything. I dont need to explaine that to you.

Its sad that Insomniac arent thinking the same as him, they have gone from a once great PS exclusive dev to a multiplatform dev making terrible Ratchet and Clank games and Fuse..If they stuck with Sony they could be like Naughtydog. Good on Luc Bernard for not selling out to M$.
