I think what is infamous about Capcom isn't the ripping out of content. It is the fact they have the content on the disk they ship, and they just have people pay to unlock it. Unlike ripping content off, it is there, just put behind a tollgate.

Yeah, that definitely got the most buzz because the fact that it was on the disc was an additional slap in the face. But they already had a reputation at that point for selling things separately that used to just be included as a matter of course, like palette swaps and cheat codes.

True, we should give the game a chance.
It might end up being a great game; the problem is Capcom and their buisness model for this game which will be built around microtransactions.
I honestly believe that game developers and publishers need to adapt their tactics in line with digital distribution channels. Its not like the SNES era of gaming where you buy the game and thats it.
I understand the need for DLC and what not. If Capcom thinks they can make this work then I think its worth giving them a chance. The game does genuinely look very good in my view.

Other companies do this. I thought the big deal was that they had the content on the disk. Having content on the disk is an entirely new level of horse armor.

That was the big deal. I think they were already widely perceived as some of the worst ripoff artists before that, though. That just cemented their reputation as scumbags par excellence.
On the flip side it seems like Bethesda took all that horse armor criticism to heart. They are far and away one of the best when it comes to making meaningful DLC, IMO.

Well, if we hold all this thinking is valid, looks like Capcom will seek to raise it to even HIGHER levels and be doomed in the process (and I see why reviewtechusa is saying they are doomed:

While the images above are filled with business projects and comparisons, the strategy contained therein is pretty clear: “improve profit by promoting the digital strategy (DLC) in the Consumer business.”
Now, a focus on DLC would be all well and good if the publisher was not Capcom. Over the past year or so, Capcom has been found guilty of locking on-disc content out of the game in order to charge for it later as DLC.
