Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft on Xbox One Vertical Orientation: 'Do it at your own risk'

Well all of my consoles sit in the horizontal position so that won't change with the Xbox One.

Around the Network

That does seem like an odd reason for it not work and I would find it slightly annoying not to have the option.

My 360 was vertical for most of the last year and might go back to doing so once the PS4 moves all my older consoles out of the main room

But let's not forget, the PS4 "needs" a stand which Sony are selling separately, so they aren't exactly covering themselves in glory here

Horizontal, as always.

Vertical is a bit of a kids bedroom thing isn't it?

Whether someone chooses vertical or horizontal depends on which of the (2) conserves more space with their current entertainment setup. Not all setups benefit from a horizontal setup. Mine does, but in the room I keep the Wii in it definitely benefits more by me keeping the Wii in it's vertical stand.

Now, I was just thinking. If your reasoning is indeed true, what do they do considering a very large portion of gamers are kids? Doesn't seem like a very smart move now does it?

Until I fixed my bedroom, my 360 used to be in vertical. It saved soo much space (though it was kind of difficult to put discs in it).

did you just try to turn a perfectly reasonable and motiveless statement about vertical being more popular in kids bedrooms into console war point scoring?

Now how did you come to that conclusion?

You insinuated that placing a console in a vertical position was a kids bedroom thing and I was only pointing out that that is not true. The first portion of my post is entirely reasonable. You also did not make a statement, you asked a question. I simply answered.

As for the edit, I do not see any issue with that either. I mentioned it to show the big flaw in your logic and that if it was true then it is a bad design choice.

Don't blame me for you reading it the wrong way. There is no console war thing going on here, just discussion.

It is funny how the ads show the 360 standing. EIther way, I set up my 360 on launch day vertically. That lasted about 15 minutes until my son ran a toy into the cabinet. I moved it horizontal out of fear of losing my console only minutes into owning it. Now, it's funny to even think of having it any other way.

What logic?  My post is a merely an observation.... and no, I dont think its a bad design choice.  I doubt there are more than a very few who would not buy a console merely because it couldn't be placed vertically.

Poor choice of word on my part then. "Logic" obviously wasn't the correct term to use, although I am sure you understand what I was trying to say.

We will need to agree to disagree on design choice then, because I know that depending on someones situation placing things verically is much more ideal. Of course not enough to cause tons of people to not purchase something, but I never said it would. It is just a mild disappointment and considering how consoles have been the last decade or two it seems like a small step backwards.

Surely it will be changed in a future revision if it proves to be a big enough deal. Even if not, giving more options is always a plus.

EDIT: PS4 has a stand, nm lol.

But on topic, I wouldn't place my cable box upright so no biggie.
