Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rockstar says for 360 version do not install both discs.

That's the first thing I thought about too when full installs for all games were announced for next-gen. The fastest way to load game data is to use both HDD and optical drive. I imagine that the first wave of next-gen games won't suffer as their is plenty of memory to use as cache, but full installs might hurt load times in the long run as games get bigger.

Digital?

I understand the issue but the DF explanation makes no sense because there are a digital version of the title and the digital runs everything over HDD.

So say that the game needs to optimize reads from HDD and Disc for better performance is false or the digital version is a crap choice.

Anybody had issues with the digital version?

there is no digital version for 360 right now.

So the PS3 version runs fine via HDD and 360 not? Seems weird and unlikely.

That's what I'm talking about... the HDD issue seems like bad excuse for now.

no clue, maybe the ps3 download version doesn't run as good as the 360 version with the "optimal" combination of disc+hdd? eurogamer also said that they are curious to see the digital version for ps3 but that's all they said about it. they compare the ps3 and 360 retail  version tomorrow, maybe they will also mention the digital version for ps3 then.

I can't think of a single reason for this. I don't like it, though. I'm sure it wouldn't happen often but I remember how pissed I was when I played Metal Gear Solid 4 and I was ready for the game to continue. Instead, I had to wait for the game to install. I think I'll get flashbacks with GTAV.

That's when you were supposed to go for a smoke.

Digital?

I've always wondered whether an all digital release has a disadvantage over a disc based release that can use both HDD and drive to read data from simultaeneously. For example a disc based release with an install can stream track data from the disc while loading the cars from HDD.
With Halo it was proven to be slower with a full install. Although that mostly had to do with the HDD being used for caching, which an all digital release would not have to do.

I was tempted to buy another cheap usb stick but I guess I gonna wait tomorrow and see the results for myself...

kinda sad it didn't arrive today..

if you use a usb flash drive the problem should be solved:

UPDATE 3: Digital Foundry has investigated the matter further and discovered a possible solution to the Grand Theft Auto 5 Xbox 360 "play" disc installation issue.

The video, below, shows footage of the game played with the "install disc" installed to the Xbox 360 hard drive, as is mandatory, and the "play disc" installed to a USB flash drive. Doing so appears to eradicate the performance issues found when both discs are installed to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

This is what 512 mb of ram will do to your console.

Wow lots of pop ups if you install :/ I would have thought it would have made the game perform better.
