I heard from someone that Nintendo was the first company to make use of a backlight for LCD screens (GBA SP).
Of course I never really looked it up, but if it's true then I think it deserves mention.

Go figure, Microsoft doesn't have a single vote at the time of this writing.
But as expected, Nintendo by a long shot with sony in second place. Sounds right.

I prefer enthusiast of the Sony persuasion. ;) Microsoft has done, by far, the most to drive the online realm. That's one of the main reasons why I am disappointed with Nintendo. I love online gaming, and it is becuse of them Sony has pushed their service to higher heights. That cannot be discounted. Plus, they did start off well with indies and things like XBL arcade were great additions.

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
While not innovating Sony did bring gaming to the mainstream. They did a lot for gaming with that. Having said that I vote for Nintendo.
