Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is it truly implausible that Nintendo will try VR again?

Yes, there is the Oculus Rift.

But Nintendo has a ton of experience with the Virtual Boy and the 3DS in making 3D games. Sure, the initial 3D appeal may have worn off after a while, but Nintendo is really prone to going back to old ideas and implementing them later.

So with all their experience in making games in 3D, might not we see a Nintendo headset paired console in the future?

I want my VR Metroid Prime.

Mind you, they can just add it as a really expensive add-on. They have done balance boards and the like in the past. Can't see why a Nintendo headset option couldn't exist, now that they have some good streaming tech.

Well after the colossal failure the Virtual Boy was I don't think Nintendo will ever want to touch the concept again. The 3DS might have had a similar concept to VR but it's definitely not the same, and they likely go for that concept because 3D movies were the big thing (and having a glass free 3D display was a neat concept, but not really a selling point).

That's why I don't think Nintendo will touch VR again, unless the Oculus Rift and maybe some other VR devices really become popular, if they don't, Nintendo will simple not going to bother (unless they want to take the risk like they did with the Virtual Boy).

Granted, the Virtual Boy had much more bigger problems than being a VR machine. It had the weird red and black colors, plus the shape. But if those issues weren't there I still think the machine wouldn't have sold that well (definitely better but not really that huge). VR is really to hard do right and it's a huge risk nowadays.

I don't know, they went back to the Gamecube ways after the failure of that console with the Wii U. They went full steam ahead with the 3D mentality with the 3DS (which damaged their handheld stronghold) At this point, I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to make some boneheaded decision simply to make the visions of certain Nintendo Developers come to life, or make game development fun for them.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Serious question. Why do ppl on this forum equate high def streaming VR via nintendo with a monotone eyebleed? It is chipping away at my iq!

well maybe not that, but Holograms with virtual pets and shiz would be sick as fuck :O

It's possible. I think I remember hearing that Sony had some Oculus prototypes that they had been checking out. VR may be the goal for the next generation of consoles, assuming there is one.

I bet they will try it again when the technology is actually there.
