Forums - Gaming Discussion - will we ever be able to resell digital content?

I wish we could but I doubt we ever will.

I have a hard time explaining what I mean. But if u sell the digital game back to the network then they can just keep selling it as new since ur not opening a package or anything like that. Basically just a way to get people to commit to digital

...Anyhow, I agree with Pokoko. Digital games should be sold for less in the first place.

Will never happen. I think a good idea though would be if there were a points / rewards system in place for buying digital content, whereas for every digital dollar you spend you get x amount of points back that can be used towards future game purchases.

Never happen, eh?  I sold a DSi with digital content. So, that taste in your mouth right now- that's called crow.  Because you ate it.  You ate crow.  Crow eater.

LOL, well yeah, I guess I could sell my digital content on my 360 by actually selling my 360, but I think we're talking about reselling each piece of digital content individually, so... that crow I supposedly ate?  Never happened.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't think we will, at least not any time soon. Not unless we truly own the games we buy digitally. But publishers don't want that for obvious reasons.

It would like to but i don't think it would ever happen just because it seems so unfeasible but Steam sort of allows it with trading community thing. But that's not games but virtual items instead

Why would you be allowed to? You buy a license for a piece of software to enjoy, if someone else want to enjoy it they should buy it for themselves aswell.

Ur missing the point, im not saying u can go and sell it to ur buddy or gamestop, rather u could trade it back to PSN, Eshop, etc and get credit for ur next game. Also the game wouldnt then be resold as used since idk if that would even be possible. Basically im juat saying it would help consumers and would also give them oncentive to go full digital which is what all the developers want.

I get your point from the consumers perspective but why would the industry want this? It might help with people wanting to go full digital but how are they going to take away those options later on? Because they don't want you to trade/sell your games.

Also it makes it much more complicated then is needed. Take a look at Steam, it doesn't have any of those options either. If you think a game is worth the price you buy it and otherwise you don't or wait for a discount/sale.

In the EU, a German court has already ruled that consumers must be allowed to resell digital content.

The services need to catch up with the regulations as the capability exists within the technology already.

It was not a German court, but the Court of Justice of the European Union, which is actually located in Luxembourg.

The court stated: “An author of software cannot oppose the resale of his ‘used’ licences allowing the use of his programs downloaded from the internet.”

Thank you for the clarification.  The totallity of that decision is that second-hand sales are permitted in digital sales (in Europe).  The only exception to this, that I know if, is if it is a lease or a rental, where the holder of the license has no right to the use beyond a limited time frame.

It helps them because digital makes much more profit because they dont need to pay manufacturing, packaging, transportation, retailer costs.
