God Eater is pretty huge in japan, i'm expecting a 400k opening for the vita and 120k for psp

God Eater on PSP opened to 295k at the point when PSP was at its peak.  I don't see GE2 coming even half that level.

Don't forget, the game is also releasing on PSP.  That will eat into a lot of potential sales on Vita.

Ofcourse the first one wouldn't open well, it was the first game in the franchise, sequels tend to do better

Plus the psp didn't really hold back toukiden

While it's true that God's Eater won't outsell MH4 theres no doubt that its going to be the biggest Vita game in Japan yet and sell systems. The only thing that won't help it's cause is also being on PSP. Also remember it took 3 games for MH to become the moster it is in Japan so GE2 just needs to sell more than the first (combine).

A sequel on an increasing install base, yes, that can increase well but a sequel on a highly reduced install base will not increase upon the opening week sales of the original.  Especially when the original was on a single platform that was at its popularity peak.

GE2 will do nicely on Vita but it won't match the original on PSP.  That's not necessarily a bad thing.  Contextually for Vita's install base, it will do great.

As others have said, God Eater 2 should do very well, though certainly not on Monster Hunter's level. It's a franchise with an identity and one that hits a lot of the switches the Japanese like--hunting, anime-type characters, and pretty girls with strange outfits. Personally, I'm much more interested in God Eater than MonHon, which has never appealed to me very much.

I think the sales numbers will be good enough to make Capcom regret not having a Vita Monster Hunter title.

I agree. If the vita version can get to 350-400k, it will be clear that a monhun port would be lucrative.

Persona 4 is the best selling game on Vita in Japan and it's at 250k.   350-400k seems out of reach for GE2 at this point.

If you mean globally, then I suppose it's possible but Namco Bandai have issues bringing games outside of Japan these days.  Even then it would still be very unlikely to hit 400k as only 6 games so far have (retail only) and they are all very big IPs (Uncharted, CoD, AC, Persona, LBP and FIFA).

No. Japan only. God eater is bigger than persona 4 in japan.

I've been saying it all along, the right game(s) will save Vita in Japan.

I dont expect it to be as big as Monster hunter but it will move a lot of Systems thats for sure. I guess it will sell over a Million psp and vita combined.

I wouldn't call it a killer app until it can do those sales in more then just one part of the world.

why would capcom regret not having MH4 on Vita? Its going to sell massive on 3DS, i mean 3ds didn't even have a huge userbase when MH Tri came out and its now almost 2mil sales and thats a port! Capcom went With 3DS cuz with it they can at least do 3.5mil sales vs Vita which could do maybe 1.5mil! But then again It would be smarter to have it on both handhelds? Oh welllllll

Because by not having a Vita version, they're allowing other hunter games to build fanbases and market share.  Now if MonHon does got back to the Vita, it's possible that it might have lost customers to God Eater or Toukiden.  Sales are sales.  Because you sell 1M on one system doesn't mean 250k on another system is something to sneeze at.

Your argumemt at the bottom is interesting, because we could say almost the exact same thing for the Wii U.

However, I bet .MH will sell around the 4 million mark LT, whereas the Vita version of God Eater will be closer to 400k. Combined they may get a million, but that despends on a lot of factors right now.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

God Eater 2 has the potential to expand it's userbase without MH on PSP and Vita.
IIRC the first one is close to a million sales.

It could be 50/50 split or 60/40 split or 70-30 in Vita's favor with 3 special editions in plans for Vita.
