awesome. when the economy collapses history books will tell of our gay orgies and decadence.

Ha ha ha ha, yes, because two people having the civil rights that come from marriage of course leads to orgies and glitter.

Let's not forget all the glitter, everywhere.

Actually, more people having stable relationships does improve society, they buy houses, take better care of the community, crime goes down, etc.

They already had the civil rights from a civil partnership.

There is ZERO legal difference between the existing civil partnerships and marriage in the UK.

Waste of parliamnet time.

Yes because its a liberal propaganda its a waste of time. Like all other liberal agendas like globalisation, racial equality, a more transparent and working foreign and immigration policy that would not spawn hundreds of terroist poising to blow shit up in the west.

There is zero legal difference between civil partnership and marriage as you said, so why not just merge the two together and give everyone the equal right to marriage? Or is the word "equality" a liberal propaganda itself to you?

Those gay people pay taxes too which goes into salary for those in the parliament, working towards the right of gay people is hardly a waste of time because they are also the very citizens of this country.

No Scotland, or has it already passed there?

Scotland was way ahead on this issue, but seems they fell behind.

Oh, now they are going to be teased for being 'backwards' and 'uncivilized.'

Damn right they are.

priorities.  the new use of a word, which changes precisely nothing for those involved is not a priority.

Im not against it at all.

What is more of a priority than making sure  every member of the population that you are governing has their rights recognized in the same scope and degree as the rest of the population? Arming rebels in an illegal effort to destabalise and dethrone the legitimate governments of other countries?

Perhaps to you, but like voting to Emily Davison, to the people that are effected it’s important.  Civil rights are only nothing to you, if you are not effected by the lack of them. Even, not a fan of marriage John Barrowman of Doctor Who/Torchwood, finally got married recently to his (now) husband in California.

Plus, what about when you leave the country?  Marriage rights in other countries are quite different than ‘domestic partners.’

I honestly can't say exactly what the difference are in the UK, but in the USA a Civil Partnership is missing about 10,000 (total at the federal level) rights from marriage.  (like Immigration, taxes, social security, inheritance, etc.)

Didnt you read what I said?  There is NO difference. NONE, ZERO.

Actually, I did, and I pointed out where it wasn’t the same.  A rather important one, International Law.

Yes, I see the difference are much bigger in the USA than the UK. But a country shouldn't discriminate because of gender. It would be like calling a female pilot or doctor some other word.  Some brides marry a groom, other brides marry a bride.

I get this may be nothing to you, as it may not effected you or anyone in your family, or you friends, or even anyone you know.  But as someone who went to a same sex wedding this weekend – to a couple that had already had a public ceremony, but now had a Legal one – it means a great deal. It means paying the same taxes, being able to visit them in the hospital, and making sure they are better taken care of when you die.

So this is a good thing.  It will strengthen society, and make the future better.

I wish that they would just make it legal everywhere already.

And The Queen has signed it today!  Quite a progressive event for an 87 year old woman.  Marriages will begin next year. (I wonder if wedding ring sales will have a big spike?)

Here we have her in festive rainbow colours!  Long Live the Queen!
