So it are pratical 2 new IP's?
Doesn't it count that they have the same mechanics, fans, same world(sort of)
AndrewWK said: So does that mean we God of War fans can discard Ascension as well? |
i believe the hardcore gears fans have a much bigger problem with judgment as the god of war fans with ascension and both obviously count as part of the franchises but if they are really games which show how good or bad those franchises are is another question. if a game of the mainline is "bad" i would fear that the next games will be also bad. with those two games i wouldn't fear anything as fan if we will get a new game announced.

I know technically its the same game but they are two different IPs . Sony owns the rights to Demon´s Souls.
Xenoblade Chronicles (if it counts as new IP, but I think it does because it has nothing to do with Xenosaga and Xenogears)

How do you define success and industry impact? Mass Effect didn't have that much financial success
@OP: Doesn't Judgment count as a Gears game? |
In terms of success, I'd say what it does sales wise and defining or impacting its genre. To me, Mass Effect open the door for console western RPGs. Skyrim would have done well but I think the impact of the Mass Effect franchise was pivotal in expanding the doors for its genre. I shouldn't even have to mention the crap storm that was generated due to the ending. Dragon Age 2 for better or worst will no doubt follow in Mass Effects footsteps and no doubt we will see more sequels, clones and games that adopt more RPG like traits due to Mass Effect's success.
Gear of War is similar, while the mechanic of hiding behind objects has been around since the N64 and PS1 days for some games, Gears popularized it to the point it is practically standard now. That and the multiplayer helped build the 360 along with the Halo games into the position that it has today. Although, I should probably throw Demon/Dark Souls, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Wii Fit for their genre impacts out there as well.
On Red Dead Redemption, I forgot about Red Dead Revolver. Then BioShock then Last of Us in terms of production.

Okay thanks to clarify :)
You know why there is a dark souls 2 instead of a demon's souls 2?

Yeah, its the same developer and publisher from Dark Souls. So that is a direct sequel, but Sony has teased that we might see some more Demon´s Souls.
