QUAKE LIVE is no longer free-to-play

http://www.pcgamer.com/quake-live-is-no-longer-free-to-play/

Quake Live, arguably the most enduring free-to-play first-person shooter, is no longer free-to-play. An update published yesterday on the game's Steam page announced the arrival of Steamworks integration and the termination of the Quake Live subscription service. That means friend lists, chat, lobbies, voice chat, server browsers and statistics now all run through Steam.

Just so you guys know WB released Arkham Knight back onto Steam with both the SP and base game being at full price. Their form of "compensation" is basically them giving you the older Arkham games, one of which was also a bad port, for a limited time offer that expires on Nov 16th.

So really this is a deal that covers only those who have never played the series on PC at all and anyone else who actually owns the previous titles gets nothing at all (which is the majority and especially telling in the forum topics and comments on the page WB posted).

Also the port is still busted for some it seems: http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/28/batman-arkham-knight-steam-pc-problems/

All I know is even though I didn't buy the game and stayed clear of it, I now know it;s in my best interests to just not support WB in the future because they clearly don't care about giving you a quality product let alone compromising their image just a bit to cover more than a single angle (talking about the bad deal).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Some Battlefleet Gothic screens emerge (more of them at least).

http://www.destructoid.com/battlefleet-gothic-armada-brings-out-the-orks-317940.phtml

Also Dtoid link a snippet of gameplay footage from Sept.

Definitely keeping my eye on that title since I'm pretty hardcore for RTS games including space RTS and I do love me some 40k.

A bad port can eventually be an ok port, but an awful one will never be completely fixed... specially since it costs money and the publisher won't be interested in spending that much, because otherwise they would have done a good port from the start.

In any case, I have Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, and I found them to be ok, but not as great as the critics say.

In another vein, those of you with an Nvidia card that are planning to buy a fast monitor (one of those 144Hz or more kind of monitors), pay attention:

http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/Testing-GPU-Power-Draw-Increased-Refresh-Rates-using-ASUS-PG279Q?destination=node/64076#comment-288358

Testing GPU Power Draw at Increased Refresh Rates using the ASUS PG279Q

The results are much more interesting than I expected! At 60Hz refresh rate, the monitor was drawing just 22.1 watts while the entire testing system was idling at 73.7 watts. (Note: the display was set to its post-calibration brightness of just 31.) Moving up to 100Hz and 120Hz saw very minor increases in power consumption from both the system and monitor.

But the jump to 144Hz is much more dramatic – idle system power jumps from 76 watts to almost 134 watts – an increase of 57 watts! Monitor power only increased by 1 watt at that transition though. At 165Hz we see another small increase, bringing the system power up to 137.8 watts.

ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED adds skelesaurs and zombie dodos for its Halloween event

http://www.pcgamer.com/ark-survival-evolved-adds-skelesaurs-and-zombie-dodos-for-its-halloween-event/

Every game under the sun, and quite a few of them over it, is getting Halloween-themed #content at the moment—but which to write about? Obviously any game featuring skeletal dinosaurs is going to get coverage, which admittedly is limited to Ark: Survival Evolved at present. The prehistoric survival game has been stuffed with yer traditional pumpkins and bats, yer slightly less traditional giant spiders, and with zombie dodos, a giant fire-breathing DodoRex, the aforementioned skelesaurs and more.

THE TOWN OF LIGHT gets February 2016 release date

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-town-of-light-gets-february-2016-release-date/

Italian developer LKA.it'sst game is the intriguing The Town of Light, a first-person adventure/horror set in the very real Volterra Psychiatric Asylum. The Italian facility was shut down in the 1970s, but you're poking around in it now, something that's bound to end well for you, I reckon. The game was originally due late this year, but it's just been postponed to February 26 2016, "to ensure the delivery of the initial team vision for the story and gameplay". (That's from the press release.)

PROMINENCE: atmospheric first-person sci-fi adventure out November 6

http://www.pcgamer.com/prominence-atmospheric-first-person-adventure-out-november-6/

One of the best things in games is discovering a new one that seems right up your street, and that's out in just a few days' time. That's just happened to me with Prominence, a first-person (i.e. a bit like Myst or Dark Fall) point and click sci-fi adventure. It's a game where you'll click, rather than walk your way through its gleaming white, Arthur C. Clarke-esque world, but it seems much less static than you might be expecting from this sort of thing. Here's a wonderfully informative trailer, so you can see what I mean:

THE DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN ENHANCED EDITION EULA contains a surprise

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-divinity-original-sin-enhanced-edition-eula-contains-a-surprise/

Every videogame has an EULA—End User License Agreement—and nobody reads them. And before you leap into the comments to expound on the unflinching attention you pay to the fine print, yes, I know that some people do give them the once-over before clicking the button that allows the action to proceed. But it's a tiny portion of the gamer population who bothers with them. I certainly don't. And because of that, I, along with just about everyone else, missed out on a little something being cooked up by Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios.

ANNO 2205's modular buildings detailed

http://www.pcgamer.com/anno-2205s-modular-buildings-detailed/

The best thing about this trailer for Anno 2205 is that Blue Byte and Ubisoft haven't used the occasion to shoehorn in some tenuous Halloween reference: a modular pumpkin, say, or an extended gingerbread house. No, instead it's a fairly dry, informative video about the sci-fi city builder's modular buildings feature, and it's all the better for it.

I so want a new Vampires game, based on the Old World of Darkness.

Finally, someone snatched that Vampire license from CCP. I don't expect to see actual game for at least 3 years, but at least there's hope now - if they're smart, they'll try to hire same people who made Bloodlines and give them proper funding.
