Yeah, OK... I'm sure after winning back their consumer base with dropping the always online DRM thing, they'll just randomly decide to implement it at some point in the future, because... um.... REASONS!

winning back? they lost tons of fans who will likely never return

What should worry people is that they are doing this with a simple FW update. They're not completely taking what they have announced out of the system. It'll be all there at launch, only they are using a SW work around. That means that if they change their minds (not saying they will), all it will take is a simple FW update and everything is back to how they originally planned the Xbox One.

And I would imagine MS has also spent quite a bit of money putting everything in place for this DRM, including a special network for retailers to go through if they want to sell One SW. Not sure if they are willing for that money to go to waste, completely.

How do you know all this?

And sometimes companies make bad calls and make a loss, Microsoft did so with a company they bought years and years ago and lost $500 mill on it last year or something? I didn't think they would go back on these plans but they have, and now they have I find it really unfesible they'll change half way through which would cause an unimaginable shitstorm. It just sounds like ya'll trying to convince yourselves it's gonna happen?

Like I said, expect MS (and Sony) to be planning fully digital consoles for 2020 launch.

Kotaku reported that to enjoy the DRM reversal, Xbox One owners will have to connect to the internet with the One and download an update.  I just find it strange they aren't just shipping the console with it already in place, but instead they are requiring customers to connect to the internet to update it themselves.

As for your last sentence, MS probably.  Sony not so much.

I hope so,sharing digital games was so neat especially for me since i live in an island and most games at launch take a day or a week to come here so i will probably opt for digital only ...I could have had the opurtunity to share my digital games now i will need to wait 1 year or 2 ...

Food for thought: Microsoft tried to take away our rights. Sony didn't.

You're just regurgating what is being discussed in this thread. Again who knows what discussions took place behind closed doors and how close Sony came to going DRM/online. They've introduced paywall and they've said DRM is up to third parties, stop making out they're not anti consumer too.

They run servers. If you want to use online, and play on THEIR servers. How do you expect that to be free? Stop being an idiot. Don't have to buy PS+ to play games, just to play on their servers that cost millions and millions a year to run. At least Sony gives you a lot so, you don't think of it as renting server space. MS charges, and guess what. On the PC, Steam doesn't but they do NOT host their own servers. That is for ever game developer to put up.

Are you dumb, anti-consumer? You're anti-logic. They are not changing their DRM practices from this current generation. That isn't anti-consumer, that is the norm. Devs always can implement DRM, by making a game always online, or having a code. This isn't new. Here is how it goes down. You have to let the developers (really publishers) decide their games connectivity, or else they might protest your console. All Sony has said always is that they will not change their stance on used games, or DRM.

I don't know either, perhaps it's something that can't be ironed out so quickly and so for the first batch there needs to be a patch, think of it like a day one patch for games.

Well in 2020 the world will be prepped for a digital only console and I think people will be expecting it at that point. Retailers will possibly survive by MS and Sony offering cheaper digital games to sell, I dunno. We'll talk about it when we get there!!

Called it! Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. They are shipping the hardware with all these features and they WILL use them. They are just gonna wait until its no longer a threat to the viability of the product in the market.

I don't expect it to be free, I think it's a wise business decision from Sony. but still, it is what it is, doesn't make it any less anti consumer from what I've been hearing over the last 6 years?

The fact is I'm not blind to see Sony had gamers best interests at heart the entire time, I'm sorry if you do.

Seriously?  The whole DRM thing will be forgotten by the time the console launches... the folks who gamed on Xbox systems for the past 2 gens aren't going to switch just because M$ had a PR brainfart for a few weeks.

And any potential buyers M$ may have lost would have paled in comparison to the disaster that was the PS3 launch, which saw millions of gamers switch from Sony to M$ for a number of reasons.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

How many tons exactly? :) I don't think many people have decided already, the masses still buy ps3 and 360. It's only a small crowd that buys consoles day one. Don't exaggerate until we have actual numbers.
