What? I think (and hope!) they use checksums to verify the downloaded data is "good".


It has been known in the past for Sony to have had issues with the downloaded data not being verified properly, I have no idea why they have the issues but it's been recommended for a while to update off USB to minimize risks.

This one might really have a problem though, as my PS3 doesn't find a new update and still is at 4.41, so Sony might have pulled it for now to investigate the issue. I tried updating out of curiosity. I'm on firmware 4.41. It said I have the latest version and there's no need to update. So they either haven't distributed it for Japan yet, or they pulled the update.


I was also not prompted to download an update when I was on my PS3 during my lunch break today. I am also in Japan btw. So maybe not released her yet, or pulled.

this topic scares the shit out of me since i just upgraded my hard drive a couple of weeks ago from 80gb to 750gb and now i'm afraid this problem will occur to me cause i have a ps plus and the auto update feature is on!!

 

EDIT: thankfully the auto update operation was scheduled 2 hours ago and since Sony took the update offline, i'm on the the current version and i can sign in and do whatever i want :)

It only downloads it - you have to update manually as I heard.

I have PSN+ and I didn't even noticed there was an update. I have stopped caring about those things almost 3 years now. I report my PS3 is fine
