It has been known in the past for Sony to have had issues with the downloaded data not being verified properly, I have no idea why they have the issues but it's been recommended for a while to update off USB to minimize risks.

Every firmware update bricks some, because during the process there always are some that turn off their console or lose electricity and so on. This one might really have a problem though, as my PS3 doesn't find a new update and still is at 4.41, so Sony might have pulled it for now to investigate the issue. Still, people that are stuck on the wave-thingie can still boot into the repair console to reinstall 4.45 or install a newer firmware once Sony releases one. |
You mean this?https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1488/~/safe-mode-on-ps3
"Safe mode is a feature for starting the PS3 with the "minimum required functionality" if the system is no longer able to start up normally. By starting up the system in safe mode, then executing a menu option, you may be able to eliminate the symptom. Please note there is a chance that safe mode options will not fix the problem and your system will require service.
We do not recommend using the options in Safe Mode unless you are experiencing issues with the PlayStation 3. Some of these options could result in loss of data.
If you choose to perform one of the Safe Mode options, please back up your data before attempting to enter safe mode (when possible). Click hereto learn how to manually copy data from the PlayStation 3."

I was also not prompted to download an update when I was on my PS3 during my lunch break today. I am also in Japan btw. So maybe not released her yet, or pulled.

Well, that's hardly "behave" :)
this topic scares the shit out of me since i just upgraded my hard drive a couple of weeks ago from 80gb to 750gb and now i'm afraid this problem will occur to me cause i have a ps plus and the auto update feature is on!!
EDIT: thankfully the auto update operation was scheduled 2 hours ago and since Sony took the update offline, i'm on the the current version and i can sign in and do whatever i want :)

It only downloads it - you have to update manually as I heard.

oh, right! oops! stiil the whole thing skipped me since they took it offline already.
I have PSN+ and I didn't even noticed there was an update. I have stopped caring about those things almost 3 years now. I report my PS3 is fine
