You would do this if want access to your Xbox One dashboard while playing Xbox 360 games.
For example, lets say you actually care about multi tasking features. Like say if you wanna video chat on skype while playing a game on the same screen. This will allow you to do that while playing Xbox 360 games.
In theory you could probably connect a PS3 or PS4 into a X1 as well. I mean if you wanted some of those multi tasking features aside those platforms.
