Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Can Solve All Its Wii U Problems With Metroid

Metroid has never really sold well. sure, it does generally sell over million units, but its not as popular as some people make it out to be. its a shame to, the series contains some of the greatest games ever created like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime

*facepalm*

I've been waiting for this kind of post. Oh, nobody cares about 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Wii Fit, or any of Nintendo's other 5 million+ sellers. But if they were to make a new Metroid game! Oh, suddenly they'd be selling Wii Us by the truckload!

Nintendo needs massive sellers right now. Metroid can come later.

A Metroid game won't solve anything on its own, but it's absolutely mandatory for me. I will buy a Wii U when they cut the price by 100 Euro, give me a new Zelda, Metroid, X, Bayo 2 and preferably one new core IP.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

metroid hasn't been in the mario/zelda numbers since super metroid. I don't think it would do anything huge for the wii-u, but i do look forward to it. It's my 3rd favorite nintendo franchise behind zelda and smash bros. Loved the prime trilogy AND otherM!

Yes, because a Nintendo Fan-Favorite will make the Wii U fly off the shelves. Just like the past Metroids did!

I call bullshit on that. Metroid didn´t had any impact ever since the Snes era, and it is not even remotely as big as some people are making it.

Games that will impact the Wii U are SSB, Mario Kart and Zelda.

Sonic will do a great job, as well

As if Metroid would inspire third parties to work on a Nintendo home console. The whole "if Nintendo proves that certain genres of games sell, then third parties will address that market" thing is laughable. Third parties will make cash-ins, if they sense that there is a big enough market for cash-ins. That's it.

That's why looking at ZombiU numbers makes me so sad. Had the game sold at least1 mil, had a Metroid Prime developed on the double screen mechanics and sold a couple millions as well, maybe we could get more studios working on core Wii U games. Maybe even exclusives, since they would see the market and obviously notice the lower development costs. Ah well... Maybe next gen ;)

Its never been in the Zelda/Mario numbers, Super Metroid didnt even break 2 mil.

OP I love Metroid, Prime is my all time favorite game and Fusion/Zero Mission were my favorite GBA games but Metroid as a wholr isnt a big seller and thats exactly what Wii U needs right now. Im sure we will see a Metroid for Wii U in 2015 once its install base is much larger and all the big sellera are already out.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Why does everyone put 3D Mario, Zelda, and Metroid in the big seller category for Nintendo?

Nintendo has more than a few series bigger than Zelda. Many of them are from Mario but it still counts. As for Metroid? ...I wouldn't even rank it in Nintendo's Top 10 from a sales perspective. Sure, it gets great reviews but from a business perspective, it's odd that Nintendo puts multiple Metroid games out a gen. (Recently)
