How is Kinect different to my smartphone when it comes to privacy?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (yeah, old by now) and it has a mic, 2 cameras and GPS. It is always online as well. I have emails and text messages on it. Heck even private videos and pictures. And when I say always on, I mean always. I never turn it off. NEVER.

What is the difference between Xbox One and my Laptop? My Laptop has a camera and a Mic as well. It is always connected when I use it and there are privat mails, pictures, videos and well *adult entertainment* on it as well.

You fall in the third category.

And to answer directly : you can use your smartphone and your laptop Offline, turn the camera off, secure your datas, and in most countries it is forbidden to monitor or collect these datas. In fact it was in the US before the Verizon scandal but you don't even seem to know it.

You already gave your privacy not by having your laptop or smartphone online but because in your mind you chose to gave it up. It's your choice, don't force it on other people and certainly don't make it something good or normal when it's not.

I can use my Xbox Offline as well. I can turn Kinect off and secure my data on it as well. And again the data on smartphones / Laptops is way more private than my achievements in Forza or Ryse. Basically the whole bolded part goes for the Xbox One.

The underlined part is a baseless assumption made by yourself.

Well there is not much left of your post then, is it?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Not point in arguing with you because you're obviously a desillusionned f-word (not fuck) when the facts are out there on every news site. You can turn of the Kinect, but to use the service and controller you have to have it on. So everytime you use the Kinect you have to have it on...

I strongly advise you carefully (re-)read this
http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/privacy

Then kindly remind me what I have to be worried about. Which part in this article gives you the impression the government is using Kinect to monitor us?

Cant believe some people are comparing consoles to phones. Dumbest and most ridicilous comparison I've seen.

He is using an example that Microsoft has stated will not be the case. I am saying if you're really concerned with the government monitoring you than we should be worried about the NSA. Microsoft HAS stated your personal data will not be sent to ANYONE without your explicit permission. I think the only thing ridiculous part about this is that people are making these kind of threads.

Regardless I'd go PS4 over Xbox One simply because of Xbox One's DRM B.S.

Funny attempt at reverse engineering. Sorry but your "reverse" point is moot. And mostly doesn't answer nor invalidates the questions.

no it's not funny, it's exactly like i said. you want to know from us who we work for, which education we have, which media we watch or read, if we ever had issues with terrorists and so on...

sounds like you are very interested in our private data. for someone who takes the privacy of other people so serious you shouldn't be so curious about our privacy.

i think i never saw someone asking me more about my life in a gaming forum as you did...

Arent you the same guy who got your identity jacked by a fellow Xbox user on this very same forum? Lol

Lol just asking..

yes i am. but i'm talking about him. he wants our private data more as anyone else on this forum and is complaining most about microsoft and the possibility to use our encrypted data to sell to other companies or to give to the government.

it's not as if i would like if microsoft would do that  but as long as some people won't find out that kinect sends our data even if it is on pause mode, he is just talking about a theory because of prism. and i'm sure even if they will use my encrypted data, i won't find pictures of me on a funding site asking for money which everyone who knows me in real life could have seen as well and asking me what's wrong with me...

when i installed kinect 1, i got some question asked. one was "do you want to allow us to use your voice data to  enhance the service, data will be encrypted but you can still disagree" or something like that. i opted out of that and i think if microsoft would still use my data or of those who said the same, someone would have found out.

I will copy my argument form other thread:

I wont support the XBO and its policies because they are bad for costumers.   They restrict gamer a lot and take away the right to do whatever I want with my game.   I really dont understand how are M$ supporters so happy about this nonsense. Why do you like your rights to be taken away? Most probably most of them live in USA; so they are used to this stuff.

You don't have the freedom to sell your games to anyone you want; you just can sell it to a M$ partner retailers (Gamestop). And it is even worst in other parts of the world in which Gamestop dont exist.

Your disk is basically a piece of garbage; since you cant play the games from it. Imagine if M$ goes out of the gaming business; how the hell would you download your games? Or if they got hacked? And dont tell me they dont; because they do. What the hell would you do?

You need internet authentication every 24. internet sometimes goes down; $hit happens; and because of that you would not be able to play your games. Funny thing is how I talking with my brother about this; and then the internet connection went out....priceless.

You can only give your game for 30 days to a friend. What If after I used it; I decided to give it to him as a gift? Well, he is screwed because after the 30 days the game wont work.

And there is even more crap that is way to wrong. They should not have any control on how the hell I use MY OWN stuff; stuff that I bought with my hard work. And even all that DRM nonsense is damaging M$ since they wont be able to sell the console in unsupported countries.

When your policies screw the costumer and yourself; you have to admit there is something unbelievably wrong with them.

In the end your ownership of games you bought is really crippled. I wont support the XBO; and I dont give a damn how many console exclusives they have. It is as simple as that. The right to do whatever the hell I want to do with my stuff is a fundamental thing that I dont have the intention of giving up.

I just have one question to the supporters: Will you be able to keep your games when MS pulls the plug on X1 support?

I don't support it because it alienates so many people world wide due to its online only features, not much more to it really.
