Okay, I've been hearing this quite a bit lately. Mostly from Microsoft fans, and this was even before the X1 reveal. Is it true? Dunno. This site has more Nintendo fans than anything.

I hear things like "The internet is full of Sony fans, but in real life it's totally different!". It's become such a defensive statement. As if any flak Microsoft gets is simply due to the overwhelming abundance of Sony fans on the internet.

Okay, let's go ahead and assume this is true...So what? There are 3 console makers, so unless you expected there to be a 33.3% even split, one is going to have more of a presence than another. Also it's been said countless times that the people who frequent video game forums/sites are usually core gamers. These people are usually more invested in, and knowledgable about gaming than people who don't visit forums or sites. They are the first to know any news about the industry, they are the ones tuned into E3, and they are the ones who wait in line on launch day to buy a new console. Casuals don't care enough to visit gaming forums/sites.

Now, if we go by the established "Core gamers are the ones on the internet" belief, then do you think it's a coincidence that there are more Sony fans than Microsoft fans on the internet? Could it perhaps be that a majority of core gamers actually favor Sony over Microsoft *gasp!*. And and and and that perhaps the reason you feel there are more Microsoft fans in real life versus the internet is because there are actually more casual gamers than core gamers in real life?

Since gamers on forums/sites = core gamers, and Sony fans rule the internet apparently...then...m-most core gamers are SONY FANS?!

Seriously, are Microsoft fans admitting that the majority of the Microsoft fanbase is full of casuals? This isn't a hate thread, I'm just tired of seeing people say the internet is ruled by Sony fans. I'm tired of hearing that all the hate and negativeity the X1 recieved has been from Sony fans. It hasn't been. Nobody knows which fanbase has the largest presence on the internet, but if Sony genuinely does have the largest presence, maybe there is a reason for that.

I'll go ahead and say this; on these forums MS fans are under represented and Nintendo and Sony fans are about equal (don't fool yourself and think Nintendo fans have a stronger presents than Sony fans), BUT Sony fans are more vocal about criticizing both Nintendo AND MS, and thus appears to be over represented.

Are people actually saying that? I know this website has been accused of having too many pro-Sony members, but the whole internet?! lol

Back in the days when console wars were really heating up, it was a saying that xbox gamers were busy playing games and PS gamers were hard at work trolling...

Nothing seems to have changed apart from that now there is even less xbox gamer presence on forums.

@Danne I just went by the "team" threads. Nintendo had the largest one. They are pretty close though.

No more than the whole Internet was ruled by Microsoft XBox fans prior to the PS3 actually starting to move units and get great games. That was false then, this is false now, just that the vibe is better right now for Sony rather than Microsoft...we'll see what happens after E3 and the actual console launch later in the year.

This thread is about putting words in our mouths now? Wow.... We are the minority. Ninty are just a more peaceful bunch than Sony fans on this site. Sony is without a doubt the least company that takes hits on this site yet are the company in the worst shape financially.

i'm not sure that the whole internet is flooded with them. But the Sony Fanbase is a rowdy bunch.

That could simply mean that Nintendo fans are more active/more prone to make threads. I mean, spurgeryan and NintendoPie ARE in fact Nintendo fans ^^ Them two alone covers half of every post here on VGC XD
