Forums - Sales Discussion - Assuming equal price points and same release date: Which console will sell more this year, PS4 or Xbox One?

Tagged games:

A bit of a daft question tbh. Going by the Nerd-Rage seen on boards all over the place the One will be lucky to reach GameCube sales from the 6th gen. Unless Microsoft backtrack on their used games policy the One is going to flop. Hard.

The only thing that's going to do the One any favours in terms of an installed userbase between the two systems is that the PS4 (as with the One too) is going to be supply constrained so will probably only sell around 1.5m before the end of the year, and definitely won't do over 2m.

I still can't believe that Microsoft have fucked this up so much tbh, the One could have the best software collection since sliced bread at E3 but it won't make any difference unless they drastically change the used-game policy and change the Kinect device always being on.

PS3 launched at 200 dollars more expensive than the cheapest 360 and a year later. Launching around the same time and price it's pretty obvious the ps4 will sell more.

that was when the ps brand was at it's highest. either way, ps4 will do better because xone will most likely flop but Wii U will outsell both combined.

PS4, given the reactions to both conferences as the people that watched the announcements are most likely to buy at launch

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Xbox ONE

Its obvious MS is going after the casual gamers
Its obvious SONY is going after the hardcore gamers

they will both be launching before the holiday season.
where casual gamers tend to buy more for presents etc

I would say PS4, but it's possible that the PS3 will still be going strongly enough to take some sales away from it, especially with GT6 launching this Holiday.

What about the rumours of a new, cheaper 360 model?

What about them? I'm sure you aren't suggesting 360 could outsell PS3 this Holiday.

From the day of their release? I'm willing to bet you'll be wrong.

my prediction was about this holiday season. altough there is the posibility of outselling both combined lifetime, we need more time to determine it.

The problem that Microsoft are going to have with attracting 'casual' gamers is that demographic isn't that likely to spend $400-500 on a console. They're more likely to spend less than half that on a 360 or just over half that on a Wii U assuming that the One retails for $499.99.

The retail price of the Wii last gen played a big part in its success.

No, I'm thinking it will steal sales away from One, just like you think PS3 will steal PS4 sales.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If the 360 is not popular enough this Holiday to outsell the PS3, then it is not stealing as many sales from the XB1 as the PS3 is from the PS4. And there is little reason to believe a rumored price cut will have a greater effect on 360 sales than a confirmed major exclusive will have on PS3 sales.

Anyway, we're already assuming enough in this thread (same price, same date) without throwing rumors around. Not to mention E3, where we will certainly learn more about both consoles, is right around the corner -- yet here we are discussing the issue with comparatively little information about either.

I'm content to think PS4 will sell better, but I'm also aware that it will be at best the 4th-best-selling home console this Holiday.
