Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Update: Microsoft shooting to sell 25 million more Xbox 360 units

""Every generation, as you've probably heard, has grown approximately 30%," he said. "So this generation is about 300 million units. Most industry experts think the next generation will get upwards of about 400 million units. That's if it's a game console, over the next decade."

Do people actually read only thread-titles?

MS is drinking the same water Ken Kutaragi was drinking back in 2006.

Buy an X1 and get a 4K TV free? I'll take 3!

Do people actually read only half of the OP?

"(...) Medhi thinks the general entertainment capabilities of Xbox One and PS4 will more than double their selling power. "We think you can go broader than a game console, that's our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units. That's how we're thinking of the Xbox opportunity as we go forward."

Do Microsoft expect to give away their Xboxes?

We all read it mate, whats your point? do you think it can bit one billion? :P

? There is no "it", it is "they". Plural. "consoles" to make it even more clear. They are talking about generations as a whole. This involves Nintendo, Sony and MS. Three companies combined. Not only MS. Sony is included in this number. I don't know how to explain better without using glove puppets.

Yes, the Xbox One is getting a major portion of one billion of the entire generation. That's what they are talking about before this sentence. Of course they don't expect to sell them on their own because this wouldn't be a logical conclusion with what they said before.

M$ really has gone mad.....

no-MS simply thinks that the xbox1 will become what smartphones became for mobile gaming compared to handhelds.

Smartphones are outselling hanhelds more than 10:1 -they hope to repeat this with consoles. And they of course hope you'll also buy a windows tablett and a windows phone.(than you can be tracked anytime, anyplace, anywhere as one company is controlling your console, your pc,your mobile, your tv,-a heaven for happy slaves.I wish george orwell was still alive)

the effect of smartphones in termes of gaming was:99.9% of games are crap with horrible controls(therefore I hope xbox1 sales will never pass 100mio as those numbers will force ms to keep the focus on gamers. As long as they have a focus on 1billion gaming would be as interessting for them as it is for apple right now with smartphones and tabletts.they don't really care)

Personally I think no. Most of the growth this past cycle came almost entirely from Nintendo. And that audience moved on to smartphones and don't want to pay even $5 for a game. Why should they? Those $1 games keep their attention for a while and then there are 1000 others waiting once they tired of that one.

This generation will see a contraction over 5 years IMO.

PS2 + XBox = 175 million sold approx.

PS3 + 360 = 140 million sold approx.

To me this doesn't show a lot of growth outside when looking at non-Nintendo platforms.
