Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do you think the second hand market will look like on the Xbone4

I think they introduce all those DRM stuff to bring companies like gamestop at the negotiation table, before they had no incentive to share a portion of the second market profit with the big three and game developers but now they will have to.

In the best case senario: You will be able to trade games of same values (retail) with people on your friend list by paying a fee to Microsoft or Sony, something like 20$ for the licensing of the game you are trading, 10$ will go to M or S and 10$ will go to the developer of the game traded, both trading partners will have to pay the fee and also if you want to trade back you probably will have to pay the fee again so there is no abuse by the community.

At retail, M and S will charge the same fee to companies like gamestop for second hand games, for exemple, if you trade in cod ghost which worth 50$ new, gamestop will pay you like 15$ for it and when they sell it back for 45$ they'll have to pay 10$ to M or S and 10$ to the game developer, which will cut down on their profit.

Also if your friend want to by a game you own digitaly but has a crappy internet service you can borrow him your disk so he can install it but will have to pay full price on Xbox live of PSN to be able to have access to it.

Don't be to harsh on the english it's not my native tongue, also the price are just for exemple they could be different depending on the game you trade and how much they sale at retail at the time you trade them.

What do you guys think?

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

The second hand market will become completely worthless, shops will shut down and the value of games won't fall like it's supposed to. All for the greed of some gaming publishers. And this anti-second hand measure will make the Xbox One and it's games in particular extremely valuable when collectors start to look for one, years from now

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

The second-hand market will be substantially reduced.
This will lead to fewer people having trade-ins for new games - which will reduce the overall market.

It is a vicious cycle.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

When a game has been traded in in short time, most of the time it's value is not worth it. I may be short-sighted, but I can't see this will help in the long run. . . :/

But yes, since the DRM/DLC started, second-hand market should've done it since then...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Videogame retailers would close down and software and hardware sales will go down the toilet. What I'm wondering right now is how many publishers are going to go bankrupt.

Not that I endorse this, but change just happens. Blockbuster is out of business because of netflix and consoles and cable boxes. Change leads to the erosion of once prominent industries.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

i don't think retailers will really accept returned games since few will be willing to pay twice for them (the used value + the thieving extra tax). and since they can't return it or re-sell it easily, consumers will be really selective when buying games. no matter the situation, xone is screwed to the infinite power.

I'm really happy for that because there's a great chance microsoft leaves the gaming market and sells rare's ips back to nintendo.

It just gives Walmart, Best Buy, Toys R Us, smaller business owners and Amazon way more deserved market share.

except people don't buy netflix services from the blockbusters. microsoft needs retailers to sell their games, and severely reducing retailers profit isn't the best way to keep their support.

check what nintendo did for example: with the advent of download sales, ninendo started selling download codes for retailers so they can still profit from digital sales. that's how you get retailers support.
