Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Devs express disappointment with Xbox One over Twitter

It's kind of weird

After the PS4 reveal many devs (including indie) expressed very positive feelings about the PS4. Whether it was simply specs or possibilities or whatever. Of course when it's devs that work for EA we all assume it's PR and just kind of got to ass kiss a bit.

But when an indie dev, someone who says whatever they think and is completely independent (or as much as possible) of Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo/Valve speaks positive about a new product/service like the PS4 or Xbox One... it means something imo. They create a game because they have a idea, dream, and/or desire to do so. They don't have to kiss ass or speak positive at all, partly because they are just indie devs lol.

Microsoft imo, seems to be like Sony just before the PS3. That's not good

Thread title got my attention but it seems to be a small handful of indie devs. Gonna file this under "not an issue".

A handful is all you need on a twitter or social media feed. It presents a problem when veterans complain in any capacity. Thats their lively hood.

It's indie devs. Plenty of them complained about the 360 and yet the indie section of XBLA is still chock full of good little games.

If a handful of big name developers who make actual AAA games start complaining then I will take notice.

The reason for the stock pile of games is because when Microsoft started out they actually treated indy devs with a shred of respect. If a dev says a publisher needs a publisher that presents a huge problem for the next XBLA especially seeing as your digital files from your old XBLA will not carry over to the new one. Its dishonest and almost seemed like they lured them in. Microsoft does that a lot and its not cute, when they lure  people and then change their whole attitude towards them when they move onto another idea instead of being steadfast with all ideas.

What are you talking about.  Developers always needed a publisher in order to get games on XBLA.  If indies wanted to publish there own games they needed to do it with the indie section.  It was actually MS that gave developers this very easy way to get there games on a console and really Sony and Nintendo are following.  Actually if you look at the PS3, they are just now allowing indies to put up games on there service without a publisher.

You are confusing XBLA with the indie game section on the 360.  What I want to know is if the indie game section is going away on the xbone.  If the indie game section is not going away then there is no issue.  There is another thread where Phil stated that MS will not be separating games into different categories but instead there will just be a game section.  XBLA, indie, retail games will all be together.  With this setup, indie games will not be pushed to the side but instead sit right alog side every other game.  People will be able to find highly rated indie games just like they can any other game on the service giving indie games just as much exposure as XBLA and retail games.

It's incredible how indy devs seem to hate XboxLive but the best indy games on consoles start from there, they make the most money on Xbox...

What they don't seem to understand is that MS plans to unify their platforms, W8PC, Tablets, Cell and Xbox and indy devs should be happy they now have a wider pool to swim in... keep ranting while others care only about making game at putting them in gamers no matter their console taste.

Wow ms is really pissing every body off.sony should jump on this help indie games

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

I can only guess that allowing independents to publish on XBL didn't really do much if anything to pad Microsoft's bottom line.

I think we've all heard the grievances and rumblings amongst indy developers in regards to XBL which indicated it was never meant to be some sort of charity to help fledgling and unknown developers establish a foothold in the industry. And frankly, as much as I'd like to support independent gaming and developers, it is much like the iOS market where one has to dig and sort through a lot of chaff to find gold.

Nintendo already do that

Not allowing for self-publishing really makes no sense. I can't understand why they would not allow it unless they just want to put their name on by publishing indie games and make more profits that way (as well as being able to booster their exclusive support)

Lol this is just some small time indie devs looking for exposure. Microsoft will do fine. Don't believe the hype.

The sad saga continues. Everyone thought Nintendo was the on that didn't "get it" but it's MS that doesn't get it. The Xbox One blunders are making Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's N64 blunders look like pure genius at this point. Anyone continuing to support their behavior needs to take their fanboy blinders off. If MS' succeed with their restrictive policies it will set a poor precedent and you'll likely see Sony and Nintendo follow suit.

Wow the fact that you are stating this is really telling about the whole situation.
