Well 4 of the characters mentioned above is not even a new IP for starters.

Influential character? None. Characters all have different personalities. Games would be different.

best characters, maybe GlaDos or Wheatley from portal. Maybe even Shephard.

?

influence [ˈɪnflʊəns]

n
1. an effect of one person or thing on another
2. the power of a person or thing to have such an effect
OT: I would say Drake, because he is pretty much the only character that other devs have mentioned as a direct influence to their game.

Characters have been designed throughout all of life pretty much the same.  Some will be remembered while others is not.  It all depends on acting and story telling.

If thats the case then why is Super Mario famous?

simple, the gameplay and because he is immediately recognizable. Same goes to things such as Angry Birds.

Exactly and every generation has some intangible that causes stand out characters. His point for Nathan Drake is that he set the standard for how Character driven action/adventure titles are made hence why so many devs are creating their games off of the Uncharted model.

if you are saying that the characters in dead island were desgined in the same way that john marston was desgined then im going to peal kill my self

Im saying that all characters are made by actors, writers, diractors, etc.   They arent really influetial.  it is more of a vision between the 3 I mentioned before.  Just because a Writer can make a character doesnt mean that the actor will bring them alive the way he had written him out.  For example, Vaas.  Vaas is a character that was made interesting by the voice actor and the way he moved.  You give the same role to a different actor and vaas would have turned out entirely different.

It's a character that fits in the world of uncharted.  That is good storytelling and voice acting.  It isn't really influential.  The game it's self was influential but characters will always be different in every game.  You cant make a character exactly the same.  It is a vision.

You know what, just to make my point who has these characters influenced?  Nobody is like Nathan Drake.  Don't say the new Lara Croft either.  Games are similar but entirely different characters.

Nobody is similar to Ezio, GlaDos, Marcus Fenix, Shephard, etc  They are all there own character because of the vision that the team had as well as the actors.  If they influenced another character then how? A character is more than how they move or look, but the personality as well.

I'm torn between these two for influential.

Some I liked though are

I vote for none of the above and say Frank West.

SMH....Cole Macgrath is the way he is now because of Nathan Drake and so is Lara croft. The character development of Nathan Drake is teaching other adventure game makers that is very important to selling a new character in the current gen. I used Mario as an example of a character who started the building block concept in gaming. Gaming has evolved now to the point where character development matters. No character needs to be the same, but give them different sides to themselves a breathe life into their character and people will stick with them. Ezio Auditore was very similar in approach even though after the cinematics we became disconnected with him.

To all those questioning why I put batman on the list: The Arkham City batman is a newer take on videogame adaptations of batman based off of the classic Batman: The animated series. Arkham City is a new IP, therefore I put it up, plain and simple and its a great one at that.

lololol Read my edit.  Lara Croft is nothing like drak character wise.  If so please explain how there origin and personality is similar? The game is similar but characters are completely different.  Cole Macgrath is also nothing like drake.
