Forums - General - Who do you trust on this site? And is there merit behind predictions?

Beyond my own thoughts, I usually have always liked Rol, TheSource, and quite a few other members predictions on things.

As for the WiiU... I think predictions on it are good as we've seen it out for awhile now and we have a so-so idea what to expect. Post-E3 with the line-up will surely cement that. (I currently think it will have a strong 2nd half of 2013 and be within range of 10m by Jan2014).

With the other two next-gen... way too early. Anything now is just banter. Logically from history you can guesstimate they will each be around 2m to 3m sold by Jan2014. But there is way too much unknown to have any confidence in any of that.

Any predictions about the PS4 or 720 are ridiculous at this point. We don't know what either will look like; we don't even have official confirmation of the NextBox's name. There isn't enough solid information to make any reasonable predictions, and won't be until E3 at the earliest.

Really, though, I barely keep track of who predicts what on this site anyway. I'm more interested in general consensus among the different fandoms and following how opinions on the site change over time (or don't).

:D

1. Most predictions are probably going to be wrong, I mean who could have imagined that the Wii outsold the PS3/360 (almost combiend at one point), and that PSV would flop?

Realistically, all 3 will do well, but exactly how well is anyones guess.

2. I trust everyone in my friends list, there are about 60 people in all. Generally I trust anyone here, I don't think people purposely lie. If someone says a statistic, I usually don't contest it, unless it's outrageous, then I ask for a source so I can use it myself later.

As for opinions, everyones got one right? So long as people keep it as opinion, and not fact, then I trust those types of people. Most people on this website are like that.

I trust my dog

1. Many things that are just based off blatant rumors or glorified lies obviously have no merit. This is why when people predict on the NextBox, we hardly know if they are right or not and should take anything they say with a grain of salt. Anything past that is too trusting.

2. I don't necessarily "trust" anyone's predictions because they easily could've made a guess that just happened to be true and they played it off like they "knew all along!" Also, I don't really follow other people's predictions. I barely even keep "track" of my own.

The difference is that Rol didn't say if he actually tracked people's predictions. I don't. That makes our opinions different. And perfect.
