There's a high chance the WIi finishes last actually.

Your definition of high and my defintion of high must come from different books.

But it is a certainty that it will finish no higher than 2nd.

Your definition of certainty and my definition of certainty must come from different books.

The only difference is that I use logic to come to that conclusion while you use fanboyism.

Wow.  The irony (and hypocrisy) are strong with this one...

Sales peak? Where are you getting that from? The system costs more right now than the Wii at launch. I'd say it'll peak when it reaches the mainstream price of $149. If at $129, the PS3 isn't able to 100M sold, then you'll be right. But as it stands, the PS3 is at 78-79M at $270 (and that's the lowest price worldwide). As the price becomes affordable in developing countries, the sales will keep accumulating. Sales aren't going to die any time soon.

Also, 78-79M is not 1/3rd of 155-160M.

Yes, sales peak.  As in it will not sell as many units year over year as it did in 2011, hence its sales have peaked.

As for your prices, I don't think you grasp the actual BOM in the PS3.  Outside of retailer prices to reduce inventory, we may never see the PS3 officially priced at $129.  Again, this is the PS3, not the PS2.  You can't extrapolate equally from one to the other.  Different factors, different market forces, different BOM, etc...

Because the PS3 has reached saturation at that price point. How hard is that to understand? Surely, you're doing that on purpose, right?

Of course. Who ever thought that the PS2 could be dethroned?

I thought the DS had passed them a long time ago. Oh well. The Wii might have passed them if Nintendo actually made some games for the system and continued to promote it for 5 more years.

Right.  Because logic dictates that a console that took 6-7 years to sell 75 million during peak sales will sell another 25 million after the successor launches.

The PS3 is not the PS2.  Selling 1/3rd of its total sales after the successor releases is not a certainty.  A possibility, sure, but a certainty is not the right word.

u misunderstood what he meant by 1/3, PS3 is about 75m, 1/3 of that is 25, meaning he thinks it wont pass 100m or Wii total sales. And yes its sales peaked in 2011, 2012 was lower and 2013 is lower than 2012 thus far. A price cut to $200 will boost sales but this late in the gen it wont help it have better YOY sales but rather stop it from declining as fast. I also doubt PS3 will have nearly as good post gen sales as PS2, mostly since this gen has lasted much longer and much much stronger competition from 360/Wii as opposed to Xbox/Gamecube

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Nintendo isn't stopping manufacturing and selling the DS. They just haven't given a sales forecast. But they keep making and selling them.

Sony have not given a sales forecast for PS2 either. It shipped around 2.5-3million last year. Last year of shipments?

Wii is only forecast to sell 2million, so would DS figure be lower?

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

Well who knows?

My post was in regards to the OP, who apparently seems to know for a fact DS production and sales have stopped, while they haven't.

That's because the PS3 got a price cut in 2011 and that was the last price cut it got. The price actually rose after that. How hard is that to understand?

In any case, the proof is right in front of us - the PS3 is selling really well despite being $279. 16.5M PS3 + PS2s sold in FY2012. About 13M to 13.5M PS3s sold in FY2012 in a lot.

The DS shipped 2.35 million last fiscal year, and was down 57% YoY last quarter.  So yes, under 2 million seems like a safe bet.

I agree its selling well considering its price and how long its been on the market. But do u really believe a price cut to $199 will cause it to surpass 2011 sales?

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games
