Private prisons are such a terrible idea.

Well private prisons are a consequence of the state imprisoning too many people. The upkeep of these prisons is too expensive because they're overcrowded, primarily from the war on drugs, but for other reasons as well. Politicians realized that taxes couldn't keep up, and also discovered they could make money off of imprisoning people, hence you get private prisons. But of course, some (or most, in my opinion) blame must be given to the politician as well. The state itself is inherently (and has its tendency to become) corruptible due to its special powers.

"Federal and state government has a long history of contracting out specific services to private firms, including medical services, food preparation, vocational training, and inmate transportation. The 1980s, though, ushered in a new era of prison privatization. With a burgeoning prison population resulting from the War on Drugs and increased use of incarceration, prison overcrowding and rising costs became increasingly problematic for local, state, and federal governments. In response to this expanding criminal justice system, private business interests saw an opportunity for expansion, and consequently, private-sector involvement in prisons moved from the simple contracting of services to contracting for the complete management and operation of entire prisons."

28 years in prison? What a joke. He has severely impacted the life of thousands of young people, probably destroyed hundreds-thousands of families and only has to serve 28 years? He has a good chance of being dead before a release, but I still think a life sentence would have sent a stronger signal.

Take solace in this, he'll be getting severely impacted for the next 28 years. If you catch my drift.

Sadly, he was used as a scapegoat as if he's the only person responsible. There are so many scumbags profiting from this institution, it's ridiculous.

He came to my high school once threatening to send kids to juvenile detention for school fights. Deserves what he gets.

Finally, some justice being served and clearly it's long overdue.
